Supercharger is forced induction that's constant. Doesn't take time to spool up like a turbo so there's no lag. Also, instead of running on the force of the exhaust, it starts directly from the intake manifold and i believe its powered through the pulleys. thats about all i know about them

I've seen that car around, haha. Looks kinda ricey if you ask me though. I just figured all new forums needed the infamous supercharger thread. What have you been up to man, its been a few weeks since I've talked to anyone.

Well since this is a SC thread, and yah did it as per S.O.P. I'll have to post with the "TURBOS r teh l33t!" response in this thread.

Actually, a turbo is much more efficient than a supercharger. With no added rotating mass to the engine, it can make more power at the flywheel. Only downside is the added back pressure, and possible turbo lag if you run high enough boost. But most people never get that far.

first off, nobody denied that a turbo was more efficient than a blower. I know my FI pretty well having owned both sides. I can honestly say the supercharger is definately more RELIABLE and funner to drive, but if you want to base your vote off of a little compression heat then thats your choice.

there is always lag, even in low boost setups. Also theres this little thing called surging which isnt the best for an engine, and I dont want to hear the "it take power to make power" argument because an intercooled turbo setup actually steals power by disrupting the intake flow resulting in lower boost. Not as much of a power loss as the pulleys draw but definately enough to notice and use as an argument, haha.

Also, I like my power at the press of the gas... not 3-grand later.

having driven both turbo and s/c vehicles i can vouch for this, maybe the car i was in wasnt properly done?. but i slammed it and a few seconds later the turbo kicked in, surprising/scaring the hell outta me, and in a s/c car it felt more natural. but im not picking sides i have neither

Turbo might have slight lag, but it's not that noticable with a small turbo. Drive a Dodge Srt-4 or Subaru STi and tell me how much of a problem lag is. Turbos have come a long way.

Turbos aren't dependent on RPM like the superchargers. They make full boost A LOT lower in the RPM. Especially when running a small turbo. Superchargers have MUCH more linear boost delivery than the turbos. You won't be at full boost until you're at FULL rpm.

Intercooler robs power at same boost (than without one) because they have a larger area for air to travel and it would naturally lower boost compared to without the intercooler. That's why you turn up the boost to compensate.

Also superchargers can't just up the boost. You have to replace the pulley, and possibly the belt. With turbos, you just press a few buttons on the boost controller or tweak the engine management and instantly more boost.

If superchargers were so great, why do none of the pro import drag racers use them?

They are great becuase they are versatile. The reason import racers use turbos is obvious, its hard to make 35 psi of boost with a supercharger on a small displacement engine. Take in to consideration that you dont see any turbo setups on top fuel dragsters. Its no secret that superchargers are more efficient, and no secret that turbos make more power on small cubic inch engines. From someone who has driven many turbo and S/C cars, I feel S/C are much more fun to drive. This is one of those, is a XRS better than a blown S debates, whatever you have is best in your eyes, or why would you have it.

You have it backwards...turbo is more efficient than superchargers. And top fuel dragsters are also dependent on the exhaust to create more pressure on the tires on launch, it'd be stupid to run a turbo. They also tear down their engines after every run, and frequently blow their engine. There are a lot more drag cars using turbos now.

The supercharger vs. turbo debate is stupid in itself. What it really comes down to is your application. If I was road racing or drag racing, i'd rather run a turbo. If it's autocross, depending on the track layout, I might prefer a supercharger. But either way, forced induction is stupid to do if the engine wasn't designed/built to handle it.

Yeah, but how many trd supercharged corollas have done anything to their their engines internally? 10:1 compression is NOT for forced induction.

I have an upgrade kit on its way... fuel controller, w/i controller, 2.2" pulley, and a full up digital wideband O2 sensor. Talk to me in about 2 weeks, haha

Sounds pretty sick. Is it a TRD blower or a different brand?? I've heard that they offered them a few years ago but have never actually seen one. Is it a roots style?

I'll be running 10.5 lbs (pulley and intake), water injected, with a stand alone controller for the additional injector whenever the mailman gets here, haha.

just a stock ae101 4agze..... 8.9:1 forged/ceramic coated pistons, forged crank, oil squirters, have the rev limiter set to 8,000 on the megasquirt right now.... stock ae101 intercooler and sc12 (roots style blower - stock.... with stock 10psi pulley setups)... stock 365cc injectors.... using an aw11 SC (e51) tranny and axles (which are damn near impossible to break.... the turbo mr2 uses almost the same tranny) with TRD japan 3 puck (metal facing) clutch and trd japan pressure plate.... running on a Megasquirt stand alone ecu and ford EDIS4 (distributorless) ignition

all stuffed into an aw11 :) makes for a scary car
