You have to think though, what platform would be used, and what powertrain would go into it. Toyota doesn't make it a habit of doing "one off" type cars. It'd have to share a majority of it's components with an existing vehicle before they'd even consider bringing it back. Right now, the only thing even remotely close is the IS chassis. It's bigger and expensive....not to mention IRS, which if transferred to the new 86, would be a deal breaker for me.

If they do and it's not lamZors like the MR2 reincarnate was, and not IRS, I'd probably sell the XRS for it. I prefer RWD anyway.

IRS is fine for drift queens(which is why I think IF it happens, it'll be IRS) but for those of use who look at it as an opportunity to have a modern-bodied home for say, a turbo 3tc or 2rz, it sucks. There's a reason why the guys who drag race their late model SVT Cobras swap their IRS with a GT guy to get a solid axle. One of my friends was King of the Street recently with a twin turbo Cobra. It was solid axle, not the stock IRS.

It might be old technology, but when it comes to making real RWD power, solid axle is the way to go.

youre talking drag racing. 99% of the people who would flock to buy a rwd corolla would sooner wrap it around a poll "drifting" then put enough power down to warrant a solid axle for drag racing. remember the demographic.

oh and about the irs solid axle debate... the mustang guys just cant make their minds up. the new cobra has a solid axle like they were begging for, and the majority are fucking complaining about it. odd

Yeah, I kinda know that...just a little. I generally discuss automotive stuff amongst folks who have a fair knowledge of what's going on, hence the way I speak about things on forums....which isn't generally in full on, point A to B elementary terms. It's a given(to me anyway) that if you are making the change from IRS to Solid, you are making enough power to warrant the work. I realize that I shouldn't ASSume everyone knows what I'm talking about, but it's hard to break it down to that level every single time I post...

The IRS vs. Solid Axle debate among the Ford guys just depends on who you ask. None of the folks I deal with really care for the new gen anyway. The newest car any of them actively race is my KOTS friend, and he doesn't even race the TT Cobra anymore. He drives it back and forth to work when he's not in the powerstroke. They're all pretty much Fox body and SN95, save for one blown alcohol doorslammer in a 67.

And yeah, Toyota would likely cater to the drift crowd. After all, they are the ones who've turned a car that you could hardly give away 6 years ago into some 20 y.o. mythical dorifto-creature that kids are willing to spend 3-5 grand on. Toyota'd be a fool not to latch onto that market. Hence why IF this ever happens, it'll likely be a turd as far a mildly built street/strip car is concerned. And, IF I bought one supposing it was built, I would likely continue my horrible habit of chopping down a Fab 9 to mate to either a PG or G-force transmission and Toyota engine.

The Supra is coming back. It's going to be a little different, but its new name is the LF-A.

If I remember correctly, Toyota is coming out with 3 cars. The LF-A, the IS-F, and the new Supra replacement which happens to be a 400 hp hybrid sportscar. The LF-A and IS-F are both non-hybrid.

that particular car still exsist today but only a handful remain in stock form and they are very pricey for thier rarity.

Its called the Toyota FT-HS. Its the white car you see with the 5 spoke black rims. Also the Lexus GT-F formerly known as the LF-A will be a production car. Toyota is releasing it to celebrate their first grand prix victory and they hope to win one by then. Its expected to release in 2009. When I was at the Chicago Auto Show the lady there was answering questions and I heard this one guy ask if this concept will ever hit the road. She said that its actually going to be a production car but it may go through yet another design change. Again it will look very similar but it will be a production car aiming to compete with Ferarris. Ive heard rumors of a price tag in the $175,000 range.

the lf-a is the only supra-esqe car you folks have posted. and its not a 400hp hybrid, its SPECULATED to be a 500+hp v10

The FT-HS is the hybrid my friend. The LF-A/GT-F has always been the V10 supercar competing with Ferraris. Im almost positive that the GT-F will be a production car. The FT-HS will likely be production too based off the same platform but with the hybrid engine.

youre kidding yourself to think toyota would EVER build a car that resembles the ft-hs. nor do the platforms look to be ANYTHING alike. the entire chassis looks different from what i can see... wheelbase, track width, height, roofline, body shape... nothing is even similar to the lf-a. "likely"... based off of what credible source?

You need to clam down lol. Its going to be called the GT-F following the F name along with the IS-F. Credible Source = me lol. Im just speculating. Also if the GT-F goes through, which it will, I read on some auto news site, most likely autoblog, that they would drop in the same engine in a GS making it the GS-F competing with the M5. The GT-F is going to be tweaked more and will be bored out but its going to be the same engine.

the gs-f is already being slated for production and rumors are running around as to the engine and hp... but most sources put it damn near 500hp.

again, dont get your hopes up with this ft-hs concept... i dont see it happening.

true but with the hybrid you get the torque of an electric motor with the hp of a traditional motor, take the gls450h for example...0-60 5.5not bad for a hybrid imo and gets great fuel economy...and in 08 they will have an ls600h
