    HID kit and manufacturer

What is the best HID manufacturer?

    HELLA
    PHILIPS
    MCCULLOCH

Does anyone here have one of the above brands of HID kits installed on their cars? If so, what is the kelvin rating and what is the output colour? Thanks. Please feel free to give me some comments or feedback regarding any of the 3 HID kits.

Well... Hella doesn't make HID kits and anyone that's selling a "Hella HID kit" is full of it. Hella makes very nice OEM HID headlamps, but does not manufacture aftermarket kits. Achint [Moonshadowmadness] has a McCulloch kit on his car, so you might send him a PM for his thoughts. Phillips? I think Phillips might be in the same boat as Hella as far as aftermarket goes. The best HID kit (IMHO) is the HID kit made by CATZ. You might have a tough time locating one (assuming that you live in the US) since HID kits have been outlawed by FMVSS 108. Second best would be a Bohmen HID kit, which seem readily available amongst internet retailers.

As far as color (Kelvin) goes, you'll get the bet output from capsules between 4100-4500k. A 7000k capsule emits less light than a 4300k capsule. Why reverse progress by getting capsules with such a high Kelvin rating?

    Because it looks cool!

I prefer something around 5000K for light temp. But thats more personal preferance. I find it lights up the snow much better where I live. And since I drive most my night driving in the mountains it is pretty usefull.

they are around 300 to 400. If you are lucky you might for find them for less than 300... but every buck invested its worth it. You see the road alot better and it looks good hehe.

the catz kits are a bit more pricey from 450-650. I have a 5100K CATZ kit. Very please in the quality. Installation is fairly simple and takes an hour or two to install.

And its against the law for ANY car to be fitted with an aftermarket HID kit that didnt already have one before whatever that date is. Its also against the law for anyone to sell them, or ship thim within the US. Nit just for the corolla, but the Mazda6 guys and everyone!

It is MUCH esier for somebody that is importing these kits to sell them with a group buy than it is to advertise it on even ebay. A group buy would be their dream.

I could get kits if 10 or more people were going to buy them as well. I just have a minimum purchase amount of $3000 US from my suppliers. So as long as I get 10 kits then I am good to go. This way the person doesnt have to shell out ANY money of his own, and can make some profit on it as well. The only reason I am not worrying about it is simply the markup factor. By the time I import the kit and pay all the taxes and s/h fees I am not making enough money.

I could get 10 kits at around 200 - 250 each. When the suggested retail price was $600 - $800 it was no big deal. But thanks to Ebay sellers driving the price down there isnt enough money in them anymore.

    Follow me there?

To take it a step further, pretty much everything is an buyers market on Ebay and things that stem from it. There seems to always be a couple guys that are selling a product for only a couple % higher than actual cost. They are losing money, and end up shutting down within a few weeks/months. The porblem is that there seems to be 2 or 3 other guys trying the same thing at the same time, all the time. SO then the poor guys that are trying to make a little money are getting scrwed.

So like I said, there just isnt enough money in these kits anymore, and if you can get it for around $300 or so you are getting it really for the same as the guys cost after expenses.
