Harsh ride (98)

I have the stock 14" rims on it. 98 Prizm. I'll take it into a shop my buddy works at, but I would like to have some kind of target area for him to check out before I go in blindly.

Just had my tires rotated and balanced in hopes of solving a problem, but to no avail. I'm riding on a pair of stock springs, 9 -month old Tokico struts and 7-month old Falken Ziex tires.

I began having problems with my ride on the freeway at speeds over 65 MPH. The steering wheel would give a kind of pulse/vibration at speeds over 65. Thought a balance and rotation would solve the problem, but it didn't. The pulse effect lessened a bit, but now it feels like the ride is not as smooth as it should be when going about 70MPH and up. It almost feels like my front passenger tire is jumping up and down. Had a friend drive next to me on the FWY and he said the tires looked fine.

Driving slow is NOT an option. Anyone know what the prob could be? Bad tire? Bad strut? How could I trouble-shoot?

did you ask for a true balance? If you didn't most likely they will do a static balance especially, if they are aftermarket wheels. You will know if its a true balance by looking on the inside of your rims. They are stick on weights placed on the inner rim. then regular weights on the outside of your inner wheels (not the front side) Static balance is when they only put regular weights on the outside part of your inner wheels.

hrmmmm...this is a thread i'm going to watch...i'm having the same issue, and it ends up aggravating an already injured arm while driving.

Have you had an alignment done recently? If you have aftermarket wheels, did you need/use hub centric rings?

brakes? half shafts? u joints?

those are all things that spin right along with the wheels...... try those

hubcentric rings if you dont have em... thatll most likely solve teh problem..

you don't need a true balance either since they are stock rims. hmmmmm..... not sure there buddy.

The rims for my car line up perfectly... Besides the nuts (heh) center the rim on it own. The problem lies in when the rims and tires aren't balanced to each other. My mechanic told me about this, maybe I have it wrong. Meaning they are ever so slightly not balanced and when you put them on you might have them oppositely countered. Like centrugal ? force...

My tires to do the same thing but i'm too lazy to get it fixed.

My friends steering wheel would wobble ever so slightly for a couple of seconds then stop, then start again. Not huge and it wouldn't affect the steering, still staight line.

I notice the outside of my tires wear alot faster than the inside of them do...

i have my car (98 rolla) droped on TRD springs and stock struts. I usually have my cars alignment checked after i get the tires replaces, and the car rides smooth. But after a couple weeks of driving, my car wants to pull to the right.

Right now, if i were drivin 50 and i let go of the wheel, it would pull over to the right pretty harshly.

any suggestion on that?

had the same problem before and believe me, hubcentric rigns does works... at least for me.... had my tires balanced 3 times in 3 shops, and nothing works, then after i put hubcentric rings on my car, the vibration was history...

explanation, hubcentric ring will keep ur tires centered...

that sounds like your camber's off, making the wear uneven.

i have the same problems 3 days ago and it was solved. i got 17"s with 215/40 i went to different tire shop just to balance my wheels correctly and they found out that the weights on my wheels was not balance the way it was supposed to be balanced the weights should be placed on the inner middle part of your wheels not on the side of the wheels. i got no diagram for that right now but i'll post it ltr..

in aftermarket wheels, center rings play a huge role in the proper mounting of the wheel- just thought id mention that..
