aftermarket tach

    can sum1 post a general guideline of installing an aftermarket tach on our cars? is it just conneccting wires or is there some sort of engine sensor situation that goes on for it to know how your revving or wutever? all u mechanics out there shud kno the answer 2 this

    You have a 00 VE right. Why dont you just swap the cluster. That's more simple and cleaner. That's what i did on my 00 VE.

    i want 2 but i cant find 1 outside of ebay and i have an aftermarket tach at my disposal immediately so i try 2 use my resources....

    If i returned my car back to stock before i traded it in. Im sure I can sell lots of stuffs here (including the cluster).

    I don't know about the 98+ corollas but there is a wire coming out of the distributor on my car. You could probably find the right wire in a wiring diagram from the haynes manual or something. Other than that theres just the normal backlighting, power, and ground.

    Wow, so if i can find the same cluster that the other 2000 corollas come with i can get the rpm guage and the temp outside guage with out needing to run any new wires or anything?

    Yea, just plug and play. You dont have to re-run any wire. But the outside temp will show -E- because your car do not have the sensor.

    hm that sucks, but i still want an rpm guage. MY friend offered to give me his little tach, but he has to attach it to my ECU or sometin, sorta freaks me out.......

    Just replace your cluster then, much simpler. Why would you need the outside temperture anyways?? I have it now, and I dont think its that useful.
