Engine A/C Removal?

you can run a turbo with the AC intact

might drop about 20 lbs...or more? 20-40 anyone got numbers???...most difficult part is figuring out what size belt you'll need.

I'm remembering when my puppy weighed 40 lbs and it doesn't seem too unreasonable for the a/c system to weight that much...IF you took out the compressor, lines, and evaporator...all that stuff. Compressor being the heaviest of them.

Weight reduction is all you'll get, make the front end lighter. a/c shuts off at WOT.

If you're making an all out dragster go for it...otherwise I'de keep it...make a nice daily driver that way...my .02

not hard you just have to get the belt for a 98 non a/c rolla.. pulleys are all the same... and i would highly suggest not removing the a/c. I had to remove mine because my belt shredded and locked up my pulleys and snapped the compressor brackets off and i just havent bought a new compressor and no a/c sucks. So if you decide you wanna take yours out you should sell me your old compressor...

try 80lbs.. condenser, compressor, ac unit from under dash..

does it really? i dont notice that... coz i remember telling myself if i wanna gun it, ima turn the ac off first... coz i used to not turn it off and i dont notice itself turning off... i have a 99 ce btw... or is that feature for the le only?

Damn...80 pounds...I can see that. Those a/c systems can add up the weight Well if you don't want it...pull it out and get the compressor to oppositesleeper

hmmm...now that I think about it...might be a nissan thing...my 240sx does that. Not too sure about the rolla....hmmm...my honda's a/c doesn't work so I can't test it on that. But it's only foot stomped to the floor not just accelerate.

Hmmmmm...rolla's might not, I've never actually checked it...kinda assumed other import comp. were doing it too. Course...we all know what assuming does...

My A/C stays on during WOT, this is on a 02

the AC does weigh a ton. all you really need is to get a non ac v-belt. the rest just bolts off. just be careful with that AC juice. that stuff is hazardous.

Get rid of all the body components, hood, trunk, head and tail lights, windshield, chop the top, remove all the doors, windows, seats (use milk crate for driver's seat), get rid of those huge subs and amp in the back, and run skinny spare tires in the back. Pick yourself up a sawz-all and have at it!

when i was forced to pull mine out because the bracket broke i uhhh......well......hmmmm........kinda let it free into the environment cought cought... because when i called an ac shop and asked em what they wanted to uncharge the system it was like 50 bucks and i just dont give 50 bucks worth of a shit about our environment!

I took the A/C off on my Avensis 1zz-fe,the gas had already leaked away before I bought it so bought a non A/C belt from Europarts and went at it . everything but the under dash.

The benefits were to open my coolant radiator to the outside air, the condenser was fitted in front of it completely, the compressor and all the hoses and brackets. Overall the compressor, hoses, condenser etc weighted around 45 pounds.

The only real benefits measureable are the weight loss obviously and a running coolant temp drop of about 2°C but no gains in fuel economy or acceleration that is. detectable.

Funny enough there was a noticeable but not significant increase in feel of the weight in steering at car parking speeds and pulling away which was always a possibility but the least likely in my opinion.

The replacement belt did seem slightly slacker but I couldn't be sure as the difference was so slight but that would be the only thing I can imagine would affect the power steering, there is no difference in the alternator output that can be measured or observed. I had files and files of live data logged by Torque Pro before and after which showed no change on comparison.

Is it worth doing?? For me I've lost some weight which taken with other weight losses will all add up. More airflow through my radiator and into the engine bay aswell which cannot be a bad thing besides even in the hottest Scottish summer opening my windows we always be my preferred option to keep cool so it's no loss to me except the weight lol
