    mr2 vs elise

Which would be faster and handle better?

An MR2 MkI with a 4age 20V w/6spd tuned to around 200 hp stripped and with completely gutted interior and full adjustable suspension

    or

    a stock lotus elise

    on same tires

going to test-drive both cars this spring(MR2 not tuned of course). just considering for the future

I have no idea but the Lotus wouldn't look like a butthole during the race :D

The Elise does have about 20 years' engineering on the MR2 -- a 200hp 4AGE probably wouldn't have the greatest powerband either.

To be honest, I don't know. The Elise would probably be a /lot/ more comfortable, though.

The powerband of the 2ZZ-GE in the Elise isn't the greatest either though...

I'd still put my money on the Elise though for around a racetrack...

The Elise would definitly not be a better daily driver... I'd much rather have an MR2 for that. The Elise is so light on its feet though. If you could do some mods to give it some more power, then you'd have the ultimate track car.

My bet is on the elise. It is better from the ground up, IE reinforced aluminum frame, composite body panel, and better suspension from the factory. BUT if you build up a MR2 with the monies (yes plural of money) you would've spent n a stock elise, the MR2 has a chance.

The MR2 doesn't have much of an interior to begin with, so you're not losing much. Neither car is going to have much luggage room, but I'd guess the MR2 has more space. Also, a stock Elise interior isn't exactly a snazzy place, plus it's smaller than the MR2's.

it really isn't as bad as you would think.... a friend of mine has a gutted 2, with a rollbar & 2 sparco's in it.... it's pretty comfy, actually! just when you put the harnesses on you get a little uncomfortable

i'm guessing most of you guys haven't driven very many aw11's.... if you're talking about an early model aw11 that has been race prepped, lightened, and has around 180whp (n/a).... then the elise wouldn't have a chance. i'm sorry, it wouldn't! There are some out there at are down under 1700lbs! the stock C series transmissions have a good ratio (which can be changed for a 6 speed if you really wanted... thus shortening the gap between the 2 cars... since they would then have the same tranny), and you could even put the same motor into an aw11....

I would give my left nut for a Lotus Elise. There are two of them in the parking garage of my work every day and I stand next to them and the top of the roof is like 1 - 2 inches above my waste line. Those cars are DUMPED on the ground. I would love to take one for a test drive cause they sound killer.

I would bet on the elise but it would def be close. I would feel like a winner regardless of the outcome if i were driving an elise tho....

I think everyone knows what im talkin about when i refer to the picture of the kid running the special olympics that says something like "racing in a civic is like competing in the special olympics....even if you win, youre still retarded".....(yea, i kno, i drive a civic, lol)....but its like a fully built integra racing an all new porsche carrera gt......even if the integra wins by a long shot, the porsche looked kool as hell losing....but thats nearly beyond the point of this topic....

I thought it would be a bit loud, but maybe it's not too bad...I love my stock seats, though - I'd have to get an awesome deal to them those even for Sparcos.

You're putting an MR2 in the same class as a Civic?

    ...no. Just..no.

    Have you driven an AW11?

AW11? No. Showing my ***, I do not know what that is even. I just don't care if the mr2 would be faster and handle better, I wouldn't trust anyone else's work on another car, so for my money, I would want a stock elise.

He was asking which would handle better, not which you would prefer. :p

    AW11 = first gen MR2.
