    03 altezza diy

Just got done installing new altezzas in the back and wanted to pass on some notes for those that haven't done it. It took me a lot longer than expected, but I was doing it at night in the cold.

The thing that threw me off is that the factory bolts have a nut that comes off while the altezzas have the nut attached to the shaft so that the whole bolt unscrews. At first I thought I had screwed up, but soon realized the difference. This makes it more difficult to get them attached, but if you use a socket and extension you should get it ok. The other thing is that the trunk pieces have to come out a certain way. After the bolts are undone, you have to use a lot of force to pry them out to the side and then up. Take care when removing the factory nuts, I lost one in the trunk somewhere  .

But anyway that should be a bit more help for those with them coming in the mail.

Glad to hear about your winning bet. I made a good hundred bucks or so myself.

Anyway, the factor lights have a nut that comes off of the bolt. You unscrew the bolt and then the lights pull out. The bolt is stuck in the lights.

On the altezzas, at least the ones I got, the whole bolt unscrews from the light assembly. So unlike the stock, when you put the new ones on, the bolt goes through from the inside and screws into the headlights. The 2 kinds of bolts look the exact same but just function different. You have to really press them tight to get them in, but its not too bad once you figure it out.

I'm sure there are places you can get that professionally done. Ok i were to get some of those lights and have no idea how to install them. where would i take the car to get them professionally put on??? Like do i take it to a body shop and have them put them on or do i take it somewhere else?? do you think the dealer would do it??

why won't the dealer do it? They should. I bet with some money, they might do it, right?? those instructions that come with those things are sorry. they never tell in a good step by step thing. they tell you in werid ways. It's like they take BIg steps instead of lil steps. maybe those instructions are good.

There isn't much of a chance at all that the dealer would do them. I am sure a shop would do them, but there is no reason unless you just don't have an hour or so max to do them.

Snuggles, there are probably people around you that would do them for some quick cash. I do them for people for about 20-30 bucks. I am sure you could find a similar price.

Mine didn't come with a how to kit, but its pretty simple. When it warms up I will see if I can post some pics.

Well, that would be the second time working on the car, b/c the first time i worked on the car, was trying to get that grill in. I got stuck halfway, i couldn't get the thing out, so that was my first.

I'm sure i can find somebody to do it for me, just need to ask. But i have to buy it first.

    BUCROLLA--where do you live???

MDROLLA--if u want i could drive to MD to do it for you. that way i can practice on your car before doing mine! :D :D :D I want that clear corner thing too. I think it could match the clear rear lights!!

i have asked all the toyota dealers in my town...and they would replace tail lights to the altezzas for 110...i know tha price is very unreasonable, but they would still do it at any toyota dealers...
