    New Belt

Picked up a Goodyear Gatorback belt today to replace the TRD S/C belt. Mine is squeeking like crazy. I would have let them install it but 1) It would take them the same amount of time it would take me, and 2) They want to charge too much. lol

I have heard some good things about the grip of this belt. I will more than likely take a trip to the strip tonight and see if there is any slight improvement. I'd like to beat 15.2 @90mph. We'll see. :)

I hope this fixes the weeping, squeeking noise, otherwise I have areally nice belt but will have to pay Toyota to install or fix the tensioner. :meh:

ahahah yeah. This is the first squeeking since we installed in in April. Nice try. :D

It was used when I bought it. Basically this is experimental troubleshooting. lol I'm hoping its not the tensioner.

Parts/Labor for that would run me $230ish. Not looking forwarding to shelling that out, especially since I've been trying to buy a rear sway forever now. lol

eek... dude the tensioner is EASY to install... its 1 bolt and 1 nut. (just did it during my head gasket install, lol)

i bet its cheaper if you get the part and do it yourself. :)

Oh heck yeah it would be, The tensioner is $164. I just did not know how difficult the installation would be.

Any idea what would cause it to keep going bad?

if you've found the one that makes noise, i highly suggest shooting it with some lith grease as wd40 will disappate pretty quickly. which pulley was it because it could be a sign of a bigger problem.

pulleys -> water pump, alternator, a/c, power steering, tensioner, crank (no non-essential pulley's there)

It was the larger pulley inderneath the idler pulley.

    Not idler, s/c, or alternator.

Yea the Gatorback is a very good smooth belt I had that on my 2000 Tundra as a replacement when I did my timing belt's project and the change over was worth it in the winter's . One advanced feature on the Gatorback was the overall design was very cool and high tech wonder why they didnt think about that a long time ago.

we use gatorbacks on all new Turbocharged Hummers they can put up with a lot more stress than non-turbo hummers and are less prone to glazing.they are tough to cut through too.
