    DIY: Replacing your door weatherstriping

    Tools needed: none
    Time required: 20 minutes for 4 doors
    Cost: about $48 per door for weatherstriping from dealership at full price. Your choice of Oak or Grey colors.
    This is what my door has been doing for over 2 years now, right after warrenty ended. I think this part should of been recalled because I've seen many 8th generation Corolla with this trim piece peeling. It's not a problem with the rubber seal failing yet. The rubber is turning more brittle, but not leaking. This is more of a cosmetic problem.

    Eventually, it will lead to this:

    So, I brought new weatherstrips from the dealership to replace them.

    All you have to do is pull on the weatherstrip and it will come off with some effort. Then, do the opposite to replace. Just make sure you push in on the weatherstriping until you feel it fall into place against the frame. I would start with aligning the triangular edge piece on the top of the frame first and then go from there. You may have to ply back the panels on the B pillar and scruff plate to fit the weatherstriping but you need not take the pieces out.

    Well, this also fixed my problem with this moldy smell in the car everytime after it rains. I guess the weatherstripping was leaking water into the rear stinking up the car. I thought it was the rain water in AC vents, but it turns out to be the weatherstripping.

    I need to replace mine eventually. I have a set of tan/black rubber seals in great shape but my black/black S ones are rotting pretty quickly. They probably wont last another year. :eek:


    also can you add the toyota part # to your DIY? thx.

    What is the difference between the front door opening 'interior trim' part and the front door 'hardware' weatherstrip part? My interior trim is brittle and breaking apart. I was thinking the 'interior trim' part was the interior trim attached to the weatherstrip. Do I need to buy both the 'interior trim' part and the 'weatherstip' part? I appreciate help on this. Thanks.

    The interior trim part is the stuff you want to get. The door hardware weatherstrip is the rubber strip that sits around the actual door.
