    Oil Change

As many of you may already kno, ive had my Civic for a while now (since Aug 2005) and ive never changed the oil myself on it before. Sure ive changed oil on my other cars plenty of times but I just got lazy when I bought this car and you get that feeling that you want to treat a new"er" car the right way so you stay on schedule with maintenance and take care of it and everything like that. So ever since ive had this car, ive taken it into the Honda dealership so they can change my oil. Well I needed it changed today and the dealership only does big jobs on the weekends...so I had to resort to changing it myself today. I bought everything I needed and got started. It was the first and last time I change the oil myself on this Civic.

First of all, my car is like just a few inches off the ground cuz I lowered it so that was just a pain to deal with....then, it took me like 30 minutes to get the stupid drain plug off cuz it was so damn tight and I had a little socket wrench with me. That crush washer didnt make it any easier to take off either, weird huh...then, because the only way I could fit the oil pan under the car was with a jack lifting my car slightly, my car was tilted, thus tilting the direction the oil drained off and into the pan, thus ending up all over the floor. Then, I swear, Honda makes such simple ass engines, yet, there is ABSOLUTELY no way to fit or pull out an oil filter by twisting and lifting up and out. I think they want you to be under the car, which was impossible for me cuz once again my car is lowered, and plus, im claustrophobic so that didnt help, lol. They just had to put the oil filter low and at the very back of the engine with all kinds of sh*t surrounding it. I had to force the oil filter out from all the jumble scrapping my arm in the process. When it came time to put the filter back in, I had to force it back in, nearly ripping off the filter gasket but thankfully it wasnt damaged and was still securely on there. Then I almost overfilled my car full of oil cuz I didnt kno my little Civic only takes 3 quarts. I thought it would take all four. My Corolla did. I let it run for 10 minutes, turned it off, rechecked the level and added like 0.10 quarts of oil on top of the 3, lol. In the end, it took me an hour and thirty minutes to change my oil. Ridiculous considering that I changed the oil in my Corolla in 15 minutes consistantly. Hell, ive done it in 10 minutes before.

I miss my Corolla. I miss my Toyota. I miss how the filter was just right there, literally right in front of you.

hehe, sorry, um i dunno, the new civic we got is also a pain in the ass since it has this big plastic shield that covers the then engine left to right and that needs to be removed in order to change the oil filer and to get to the drain plug as well. but yep the corolla is just plain and simple. oh and Honda dealership don't do just big jobs on the weekends, trust me i took the accord time and time again just to change certian fluids and they did it for me with no hassle.

Differs from dealership to dealership. The one I usually take my car to only does big jobs on the weekends. I took it to another one a few minutes later and they wouldve done my oil change but they said it would prolly be a two hour wait.....after tonight, i think it wouldve been better if I just went ahead and let them do it and wait two hours, lol...

I believe my friend has the same model, a 03. I hate doing oil changes on it.. everytime I manage to burn myself and spill oil on myself when taking off the filter.
