    ENGINE runs great, going strong. i have done alot to this car, replaced the alternator, its new, rear calipers are both new, leather interior is pretty clean, tires are ok one leaks a little, title is clear and in hand, i just need a reliable car for work and i dont have the time to fix this one anymore, i just want to sell it. I Love the car to death but, i just needed a new car. The AC does not work either,
    i got new rear parking brake cables, timing belt , new floor mats ash tray, cup holder, i have spent alot on parts for this car. But i am done now. so if your intrested it is in the katy area. I have recipts for everything i have done to it. it also needs a new brake switch the old one started sticking its like 20 bucks from the auto parts store.

    i saw this in some for sale site and want ya'll's opinion on this car. ill make him go as low as i can (hopefully @ $1500) umm what are some MR2 issues i need to know about? as he said its 165k miles. what should i know?

    p.s.
    i found another corolla FX (just like mine) but its white and m/t. its not for sale but ill try to talk the owner into selling it to me for not more than $1500. it has 70k miles in it.

    which would be a better buy? the MR2 or coROLLA?

    ~$2400 is what those MKII MR2 go for Blue Book value (Private Sale) for a "mint" condition car. That car sounds far from mint to me - they go for about $1500 -$1600 for fair condiion (body needs work, mechanically sound), I'd ask for $1000 or less for that one, if you are really serious at looking at it.

    I assume this is the 2.2L N/A variant (5SFE) - engine wise, pretty bullet-proof. The S-series engine have a good reputation for decent power and very good reliability. From what I remember for the MKII - there were some electrically issues, audio system was messed up, rattles, weird noises - that was pretty much it. But also remember this is the first model of a new generation (1991 is when they went to the newer body style) - always a recipe for teething problems.

    Hard decision - you could potentially get it for a good price (say $1000) - but probably easily spend 2-3 times that to fix the little problems on it (now you are putting more money into it than what it is worth - tough call).

    @fish

    thanks for your input. well if i go with the coROLLA im sure id have soo very little to fix (if any). im starting out in life and the least i need right now is having to spend alot of money on a car.

    MR2 because you already got a Corolla and you did say that it wasnt going anywhere so why not two different cars?

    You can't rely on blue book for MR2s..just doesn't work that way.

    Figure out how much it'll cost to fix it -- it'll provide awesome handling..and you could always drop in a 3sgte.. ;)

    Though to be fair, I was never a fan of the n/a Mk2 MR2s -- but I'd still take one over a Corolla any day.

    The Doc did a tranny & clutch job on mine, and my uncle and I replaced a head gasket. They're not impossible to work on..at least not the Mk1s, anyway. If you want to buy my Mk1, I might sell.. ;)

    I'm looking for about $2k. Whether or not I'll get it is another story..probably have a higher chance of getting more for it if I sell up here, since they're relatively rare in these parts. Consider trading for a Kawasaki Concours! :D

    I'll drive it to Houston if you'll pay me for it! :p

    I haven't put a sign on it yet. I do have some interest in it, though.

    You may be better off looking for one closer to you - mine is not in pristine condition, but it runs/drives just fine. You're more than welcome to buy it, though. :)
