I had two pistons seize up under boost and snap the connecting rods right off them :D But I think that had something to do with oiling and heat and all that crap.

A compression test doesn't tell all that much, if your burning alot of oil, what you'll find is that a "dry" test and a "wet" test(oil down plug hole before) wont be very different as a normal test with good rings will show a bigger diferential. Reason being theres already oil because of the bad rings present helping them seal.

A leak down test may show more but again its a crap shoot

if its buring oil its burning oil, you said its going through alot so right away id assume the rings or headgasket.

Some of the early 1ZZFE that have oil consumption issues may also have stuck piston rings and possibly bad valve seals - even with relatively low miles on the clock. Running synthetic motor oils may help, but is no guarantee that there will be no oiling issues. Things got a little better when they adapted VVT-i to the 1ZZFE, but some poeple still had oil control issues. Might try a soak with Auto-Rx or some other products out there. Otherwise - might have to rebuild it.

you can get a cheap compression tester at autozone. they have an actron for like $35 I think

my vvt-i engine doesn't eat any oil and no compression problems so they obviously improved something :)
