    1zzfe redline and rev limiter

    As you probably know, I have a 98 1zzfe 3 speed auto converted into a 5 speed without changing the 3 speed ECU. I want to know what the redline and rev limiter of the 5 speed is because on mine, the redline and rev limiter seems to be 6000RPM. Is this right?

    Rev limiter is about 6K, and the top speed is 115 usually... I have still to find out my top speed though (turboed with a speed unlimiter).

    How come I hear race stories about Celica GTS that redline to 7800 RPM but rev limits at 8350 RPM? How do they rev it pass the redline?

    flashed ECU most likely or they could be jsut that stories... I havn't heard any of those, but I don't hang out with too many celica guys

    There was only that one model year that had a funky below 8K redline on the 2ZZ-GE - the rest were all above 8K. I think there was some ECM reprogramming and replacement knock sensors involved if you wanted to get the higher redline on those particular models - I'm not 100% sure, it was some time ago on one of the Celica forums.

    heh, i'm in the sa me boat with my 7A.. My Tach says 6200 but the cluster were off a 93-95 and they lowered the redline for 96-97:mad: I just play it safe and shift at 5500 at the highest.

    I know my 02 tachs out at about 6250 hit it one day when I also hit the speed limiter at 115

    Is hitting the speed limiter bad? I look at it this way: Speed limiter was made to keep you safe... well at least thats what I thought the R&D people thought.

    not if you do enough upgrades to keep you safe.. the weak point in a stock corolla is the tires. The stock tires carry something between a S and U speed rating (112-124MPH). Upgrade those and you have no reason (in a engineering standpoint) to have a 115 MPH governor. Think about it, even a stock pos Altima has a 140MPH+ gov (according to my idiot friend who owns one). Correct me if i'm wrong.

    I can't remember which gear (1st or 2nd), but in one of those I can exceed redline without the limiter kicking in, every other gear you hit that 6000ish number and it kicks.

    01 rev limiter 6250 and speed limiter 115. Pretty much take it as the norm.

    In a stock corolla its scary as hell to go that fast but I am lowered and am running 17's so I cannt tell that I have hit triple digits until I hear a couple of loud pops coming from the exhaust. Those pops are a backfire in some way no harm done to the motor.

    As far as the R&D dept for toyota goes I wish that the limters where higher cause when I hit 115 my motor was only at like 5000 rpms.

    Yeah, topping out a stock corolla on stock tires is scary as hell. And the reason they're governed to 112mph is because thats the max speed rating of stock "S" rated tires.

    except.... the corolla we're talking about 8th gen... comes with R rated tires. you go over 106, you're boned.
