Placement of Bypass Valve (for CAI)

I installed the AEM bypass valve near the top end of the piping. Hmm..I guess I didn't really think about this one until I've already cut the CAI.

Did I just neutralize the purpose of the CAI by doing this (since its hot around that area)?

I think the only purpose of a bypass is if your main filter deep sixes in a mud puddle or something the bypass will kick in. Other then that i think it pretty much doesn't such much air so your probably okay. But I'm not certain.

Did you place it between the maf and the filter or between the maf and the throttle? If second one then you completely defeated the purpose of the bypass valve. It should go in between the maf and the filter.

i was thinking that too but this is what I got from AEM's website.

"Generally, the Air Bypass Valve installs along the upper section of the induction pipe, close to the throttle body. Do NOT install it too close to the Inlet Air Temp sensor, and NEVER install an air bypass valve in between a throttle body and Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF). Be sure to check for clearance for the width of the Air Bypass Valve during installation, and to use the provided template that comes with your Air Bypass Valve to remove the proper amount of material from the induction pipe. "

I guess I should relocate it to right after the MAF.. but I dont think there is room around that area.

There has to be at some point. If its between maf and throttle body then water will get sucked up and go into the maf and your car will stop either way cus your maf is now gone.

I was told that if you use a bypass valve, that because the filter itself is less permeable than the main air filter, it will suck in more air through the bypass valve basically losing the purpose of having a CAI. Theres nothing fancy about bypass valves, its just a filter, theres no flap or anything that closes off the air or nothing that activates the valve to open. Its just a simple system. The vacuum will meet the bypass valve first and thats where its gonna suck in air first since it doesnt require as much force to pull the air in as opposed to the main filter.

thats not why you're can't install it between the maf and the tb..

the reason why the bypass valve must be installed before the maf (in direction of airflow) is because all the air being used in combustion has to be quantified by the maf to make the correct fuel injection calculations. putting the bypass valve between the maf and the tb means that when it is fully open, air is going right into your engine without being accounted for by the maf giving you a potentially damaging lean condition.
