quick way to speed up your net on xp sp2

    http://www.lvllord.de/?lang=en&url=downloads

this reverses the max half-open connection limit put in place in service pack 2. M$ installed it in sp2 to help control robot computers from attacking a ton of computers at once (limited xp sp2 to 10 connections), unfortunately it slows down your net overall if you have a lot of programs that maintain a connection (ie aim, msn, trillian, download accelerators, etc.)

this patch ups the limit to 50, gets rid of the bottleneck and on my system I immediately see a speed increase. :D

patch is for xp sp2 and 2003, windows 2000 has no such limits.

edit: if you have 56K, go read a book, cause this thread wont help you

I run anti-vir at max settings and finds nothing. bitdefender probably flags it because it hacks a system driver (tcpip.sys) to make the connection limit change

Ive done this a long time ago. Works well. Youll get alot of windows warnings and maybe from other programs. It modifies system files so yah it should warn you.

yeah how you use this is when you run it windows comes up with a 'unrecognized file versions error' and wants you to put in your windows xp CD-rom disc, and you have to hit cancel and yes, you want to use the unrecognized version.

eh, I've had it for a while now. just found it right when sp2 came out because people were angry about slow internet. if it says 10 again then windows restored the files somehow. need to rename your windows setup files folder or don't give it the CD when it asks.
