I need an opinion from you bikers

I've been looking at a Suzuki SV650 and I like the style of it, what do you guys think? Is it a good first bike?

    No...buy my bike instead. :p

I wouldn't pick up an SV650 as my first bike...but you can sure do worse as a first bike.

Too sporty. I love the looks of the SV...but it's got too much power for a starter bike. The ONLY brand new sportbike I would reccommend for a new rider is the YZF-600R...everything else is getting too quick to learn on properly.

As for motorcycle classes, any dealership can tell you where to get into one, or check out

oh okay well I'm not looking into the SV650S, I'm just looking into the SV650 if maybe ur mistaking those two. I think I'm gonna sign up for the 18th of August at Red Rocks, I need to get my damn endorsement so I can start riding.

It's the same bike...with a different front end.

As you start to ride, and ride more and more bikes...you'll come to find that V-Twin sportbikes are quite a bit torquier than standard I4's.

What about it is eh? The MSRP on a new SV650 is just under $6000. A YZF-600R is $7200...and MY bike is $5000. Lol, I'm confused homie.

Is this a PM conversation or a thread? Where's the rest of the replies?

Much better to have taken the class and learned some of the safe riding techniques than not. I still plan on taking it...despite the fact I have 3 seasons and 13.5k miles under my belt.

wtf is ur deal man? I'm not saying I'm getting a SV650, I just wanted to know what people thought of it that's all..... jeez, and yes I'm still moving out. I don't plan on getting a bike till probably the end of the year since they let them go cheaper and I'll be endorsed by then.

No deal here. Youre looking into my reply too much. Simple question. A couple weeks ago you gave up on the bike idea after everyone gave their advice...then ya say you want to move out and save money cuz you have no money saved up, etc etc. Just a question I asked.

i know someone who started on a sv650, not a bad bike. i started on a ninja 250 then moved to a zx6r. the difference between the two was like night and day. also the sv650 is not an inline four, its a twin. wich means more torque on the low end. so be carefull if you jammit at low speeds, it picks up quick.

yea I thought about starting on a ninja 250 but I've heard from plenty of people that you will get bored easily and pretty fast with that bike. I just like how the SV650 sounds and it seems like a comfortable bike to ride in.

It sounds like that because it's a V-twin. You put the right pipes on a V-twin sounds like a damn muscle car.

    I don't get it
    YZF-600R : 94.6 hp at 11,000 rpm
    SV650 : 69 hp at 9,000 rpm
I've ridden both and the SV is nowhere near the 600R. yes the SV has low end power but that's where it ends. No top speed, no high revving rpm (of course, it's a V-twin). I wouldn't recommend either for a beginner, but certainly, if push comes to shove, I'd recommend the SV over the 600R (remember that the 600R was a premier SS bike in it's day). Just my 2 cents.
    ...unless I misunterstood your statement...:)

The way the V-Twin of the SV jumps off the line is pretty torquey...because of the Twin.

While the 600R does produce more power, and have a 13k red-line... it has far less of a tendancy to hop the front end due to torque. This is due to less torque and quite a bit heavier front end.

I also have a leaning towards the 600R as handling a lot nicer over the SV...and having a smoother power curve.

I agree with the rest try to avoid the Sv . You want a good starter bike either buy a yzf 600r or Ninja 600 cc or even go into the 250 cc bracket but I Crave power so 600 cc is decent yet highly managed..

Mod Note: Erik, I I had to change this, I'm pretty sure you mean 600r...because the YZF R6 is sure NOT a beginner bike. :D

yea liter bikes are unnecesary mostly in this state, at least is too much power for my Colombian feather weight lol.... I went to grandprixmotorsports and sat on a 600 and 750 gixxer and I sat pretty comfortably, sat on a r6 but too wide/high for me so a bit uncomfortable when coming to a stop, sat on a zx6r but a bit too wide, sat on a ninja 600r and felt pretty good, wouldn't be a bad option, just don't like the colors lol and finally I asked for a sv650 and they have only 1 sv650s in a red but they won't get any naked ones till probably end of the year. I'm still gonna do some more research and such, I will also ask my MSF instructor and see what his input would be on what type of bike I should get and well go from there I guess...... man I can't wait to get my endorsement :D

We'll see what he/she says and also depending on how comfortable I feel with the bikes at the class I'll be able to tell. I'm guessing the bikes they get you started with there are 250cc.

I watched the short vid on the MSF website and they seem like 250's. Looks like a lot of fun and a time to bond with other bikers, looking forward to it.
