    Engine Wants to Die?

This happened to me twice now. Once it happened when my fuel was really low so I just thought that there wasnt any gas gettin to the engine. Happened again just now with full tank. What could be wrong? It wants to die for like 2-3 seconds then goes back to normal. Only does when I come up to a red light. Engine just rolled over to 29k miles. This has gotten me all scared now.

idle air control maybe? I had real problems with mine after I installed an injen SRI, eventually had to go back to stock to make it idle.

Hmm I totally forgot about this but I was filling up some windshield washer fluid and I think I spilled some, you think this could be the problem? Maybe it splashed somewhere where it shouldnt have? Maybe the alternator? IDK but im about to shit my pants in terror.

Honestly, you probably fucked something up majorly by spilling that fluid. This symptom is usually the first sign of a blown motor :):):)

Dude, calm down. Youre going to have a lifetime filled with car problems. And no, you spilling your washer fluid wouldnt do anything.

No, youre not the only one. THOUSANDS have this problem every day.
With your car only having 30k miles, why arent you taking it in to Toyota...isnt it under warranty?

It is not under warranty because the vehicle has a salvage title. All of our cars do and always have been. We buy rebuilt cars and have been from the same guy for many years. We bought this rolla in early 2002 with only 2,000 miles. The only damage was rear bumper and taillights. We had seen pics of the damage. The engine has never had any damage. And there are only 29k miles on the car. Why would it do this? Only thing I can see now is the intake. Ill see if it happens again.

Because its an engine! Its mechanical......you think that all engines shouldnt have any problems until 75k?? It having 29k miles on it is kinda futile at this point......do a tune up, and then if it still continues, put your stock intake back on. (And with that, I think the short ram intakes are pointless)

Same thing happens with my car, and i have an injen sri. I think its the maf sensor. Usually i take it out and clean it with carb cleaner and that solves the problem for about a month untill it gets dirty again. Maybe its just a design flaw with the injen sri? And it only happens when you come to a complete stop. I'v had my car die twice while sitting in traffic. If you have a rmp guage you can see that the rpms will start to go up and down and the car will start to stutter then dead.

That is exactly what happens. The tach will go up and down about two or three times then stop. Either way I plan on getting an ELP CAI soon. I made a big big big mistake with injen. Just wasted my money  For my tune up Ill skip the plugs because I just came to conclude that its the damn intake. Ill clean the maf though. Thanks everyone for all your help and a big f u to injen for making a shitty intake.

EDIT: Just emailed injen, gonna see if they give a damn or not.

Still change the spark plugs. Are ya going to wait until they go bad before replacing them?

And if you worry a lot, a CAI is not the way to go...cuz then youll worry about hydrolocking your engine.

^Lets see if it keeps happening. How often did it happen to you? You got a intake or stock airbox?

I had it stock, it happened a few times when I'd go past 1/2 throttle and then it kept happening more and more till the car just felt like it was choking and cutting off and then my Check Engine Light came on

Wow many knowledgeable people here. Ill clean the MAF first seeing that will be the easiest to do and is known to have problems. Gonna stop by Radio Shack later today to pick up electronic contact cleaner.

I'm almost posative its the MAF sensor. Just take it out and clean it. Also make sure that when you put it back in its on tight. It might even be faulty and you might need to go buy a new one.

^Aight thanks. Ill have to clean it. But still wouldnt hurt to check everything else out. I remember when I was puttin on my intake that I had trouble getting the MAF in because my intake sits higher than it should. Only reason it does this is because my ABS module gets in the way, yeah thats right, I got ABS on my 01  lol

abs on an 01 wow thats rare
but i had the same exact problem and its more or less your intake.
Clean the MAF sensor and reset ur ecu. Give it 200-300 miles and it should it stop. Make sure you do a good job cleaning that thing. After that take out ur spark plugs and see if they are fowled up

I also got me some side air bags which probably prevents me from putting in new seats but eh I like my current ones. Ill clean the MAF today if Radio Shack is open when I get off the store, probably not though :( Ill check out plugs too.
