Forced Induction Turbo Tuning Questions...

    Turbo Tuning Questions...

    I have a few questions that will help me finish tuning my damn turbo once and for all :)

    Questions

    Q) How much of a load should be on the waste gate actuator spring when connecting it to the waste gate arm? I get a little flutter noise when I shift and drop in RPM's and I suspect this.

    Q) Should the BOV be closer to the throttle body or closer to the turbine?

    Q) Where can I get a vacuum manifold so I can get rid of all of my billions of T-fittings for vaccume lines.

    Q) Should I be basing my Boost controller off the Manifold Pressure or the Turbine Pressure. There seems to be about a 2 PSI difference between the pressure line comming off the turbo and my MAP sensor port.

    Q) Should the internal waste gate pressure be taken from the turbine or the map sensor?

    Q) What is a good easy way to test for leaks in my IC pipeing?

    Q) How long should my intake pipe be? I hate how the air filter gets so hot in the engine compartment that you can't even touch it after shutting the car down. I would like to relocate it lower in the fender well to get some cool air. If anyone has some idea's on this I'm all ears.

    Q) At WOT I get a little hesitation that is random and intermittent above 5psi, it makes the car feel like it missing but I do not hear any noises that would indicate knocking or detonation. What do you suspect this could be?

    Well, I'll answer what I can.
    1)The actuator should not be open at all until it reaches the boost where it's set to open.
    2)The BOV should be as close to the throttle body as possible, but it's not critical to be so.
    3)Did some searching on a few sites, but havn't found one. If I do I'll post it.
    4)I'd go with turbine, you're obviously going to lose a couple PSI in the IC piping between the turbo and MAF
    5)Not really clear about what you're asking...

    7)As long as you need it to be. Cooler air is a plus, but remember, it's still going through your intercooler as well before it goes into your engine.
    8)Check your plugs, make sure they're at the right gap and heat range. Also check for a vacuum or boost leak.

    What plugs and gap would you recommend for a 7psi setup?

    I'm pretty sure for NGK's it's the 6097's gapped at 0.032" Not sure for other plugs though.
