    Bought a new car!!!

Well I found a steal on ebay and I bought it. It is a 1997 Toyota Supra. Its an auto and its not a turbo but for the price I got it for, I didnt give a rats a**. Im sending funds today after work and will go and pick it up in one or two days. The car is only 3 hours away. I got it with ebay buyer protection thing because thats what seller wanted. He stated car in excellent condition so if there are problems I can get my money back. DAMN I CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Id never send money for a car before I saw it in person.

Bye bye money!! Nah, that prob wont happen, but it has before. My buddy lost 17k cuz he put 17k into an escrow account for a Harley, and it was a scam.

I take it you are only sending a deposit?

you didnt look at it first? lol, i would have driven the three hours ones day to go and check it out first.. good luck with it, hope it works out well. your insurance should be lower since its not turbo then you can just put one on it and they wont know.

People said that on CC too but they didnt hear the full story. First Im using ebay buyer protection which is what the seller actually wanted. I pay ebay and ebay pays the seller. If anything turns out wrong on car, ebay refunds me. Second of all the guys son owned the car and he was a soldier who died in Iraq. The father does not want to keep the car because it reminds him of his son every time he looks at it. I bought it for a steal and I plan on re-selling to make a profit because I probably cant pay the insurance for this baby. I got it for $2,900 plus western union fees so it comes out ot like $3,050.

Car is stated in excellent condition and ebay buyer protection is in place. Anything wrong at all and I get my money back.

EDIT: and if it is a scam, he is one sick bastard for making up a story about his son.

Yeah, but when you show up at the address that he gave you and its a McDonalds, youll realize what the fuck just happened. lol

And that Buyer Protection program is a pain in the ass from what Ive heard....up to 90 days to get your money back after filing a claim.

Im sure it will work out for ya though.

But isnt the blue book value on a 97 supra about 15k? (All Limited Edition 15th Anniversary) Somethings fishy here.

    http://motors.search.ebay.com/1997-...trefZC12QQfromZR8QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQsacatZ6001

Just like the Ferrari "one of a kind" 360 Spyder I saw on one of those online sites....he was selling it for 14k, and he claims it had 17,000 miles on it. I wrote him, and he wrote me back that the reason he is selling it for so low is that his wife wants a Saab.....okay, its a 120k car. Why sell it for 14k???

I checked it all out before buying it. It seemed fishy to me too but Im paying ebay first and ebay is then paying the seller so I feel more secure. I know there are alot of scams out there but I dont know. This could be legit. I think the father just cant bare to see the car at all but ya never know. We will have to wait and see. The guy is only located 4 hours away from me so Im not too worried to tell you the truth. Plus its $3k. If it was more then yea, Id be shaking right now.

There are two things that jump out at me here:

One: price is too cheap, maybe bait to catch buyers?
Two: You said you used Western Union, but why when the car is so close that you can just drive an pay cash why the need to use Western Union?

Western Union is usually the scammers service of choice.

Did you speak to this person over the phone, or was everything just strictly e-mail? I guess you say it is only a few thousand dollars, but I would be pissed if someone stole a few thousand dollars from me.

I really hope that you got a greast deal, but as everyone else is saying this one smells kind of fishy.

Can you post the ebay link for us to see?

I did not send hte money directly to him. The western union funds go to an ebay agent who holds the funds. eBay then transfers the funds to the seller. Here is how the auction was. Starting bid was $2800 with a reserve. Buy it now was $2900. The car was only listed for like 3 or 4 hours and I had agreed to purchase it off him. I too would be pissed if someone stole 3 grand from me but not as much if he stole 15grand from me. He has been an ebay member for a few years now and has 100% feedback. I took a look at it and he has only bought things and it seems to be spaced out over many months so I guess hes like me who only buys stuff on ebay to save a ton of money.

Story is not bs. I can take screenshots of the item because I still have it open in a window. I literally floored my rolla all the way to western union and would like to thank god that I got my 2900 back. Western union took the $140 fee but I will now never buy a car off ebay ever period.

Well, ya learned your lesson. Glad to see you realized it in time!

The auction clearly says that this auction is limited to pre-approved bidders or buyers only. Which means that you probably couldnt use the Buy It Now option, (or taking the sale through ebay) which would have disqualified you from the Buyer Protection Program.

Thank god you got your money back, I almost got scammed like this before. never send money through western union and always ask to see the car first. If they come up with an excuse its more than likely a scam. Another thing scammers do is they'll close the auction. You can buy cars off ebay but you got to be real careful and check the car out in person before anything. If the deal sounds to good to be true it usually is.
