If I didn't need to listen to music, watch videos, or play games, I would've chose the Blackberry hands down. Get the Bold/Tour if you want 3G.

do you text message or email?

if you only text message, you should go with the cheapest phone with a keyboard

if you get a berry you need to get a data plan, same with an iphone.

i do tons of emailing and text messaging and of course voice calls.
surfing the internet, i dont really do much on the phone coz i have access to computer all day long at work/home.

i dont really listen to mp3, i prefer radio and i dont really like have an earpiece stuck in my ear all day long. i also dont watch videos on phones or play games.
yah, i know about the data plans which is ok with me coz i need the emails.

is data plan same as internet plan? yes? no?
or data plan includes email and internet?

With Blackberry you have the option of getting a $15 e-mail and IM only plan, or go for a $25 500MB data plan. iPhone, you need a minimum 500mb data plan.

One thing though is that with my iPhone, I can type e-mails and text messages super fast, faster than my old Treo 650 which I thought had the best keyboards at the time, even better than Blackberry, although I haven't had time to get used to a Blackberry keyboard to truly judge.

so a data plan includes email, IM, internet surfing?
depending on what kinda of deal will rogers give me, i may get 1 bb and 1 iphone. if they dont give me any deals, screw them and i will move to either fido or bell. i know... fido is also rogers but fido seem to have better rates.

Well I'm with Fido and wish I went with Rogers instead. Rogers seems to have better plans. I don't think the billing by the second feature of Fido has saved me much money. I'd avoid Bell at all costs...

a niece of mine bought a new car - kia soul.
i think she paid around 24k or 26k with taxes included. 0% financing.

car comes with everything - i mean everything!
bluetooth, mags, sunroof, abs, traction control, power all, free oil change for life, free car wash for life, 5yr warranty, 5yr roadside assistance, 5yr something else that i cant remember. the stuff you get for your money is just totally amazing.

if the car would last 5yrs with no problems, totally worth it.
maybe i should trade my crv for a kia.

I saw an "Altis XRS" in Indigo Ink Pearl downtown... it was just an 03-04 Corolla S with an automatic transmission and therefore only a 1ZZ engine. FAIL, unless they somehow did a swap with an 03-04 Matrix XRS (which came in automatic as well as manual those years)

it's just an automatic S, period.
bcoz why would anyone buy an XRS and go through the trouble and swap to an automatic? :superconf

i see 9th gen corollas all the time with Altis badge and so on, but deep down inside - it's just a CE or something else. :)
i know, coz i used to have a 1.8G Altis :) ... complete with the Altis LED tail lights. i miss that car! :(:(

Toyota suspends sales of recalled vehicles

Toronto, Ontario – Toyota Canada has instructed its dealers to temporarily suspend sales of the eight models involved in a recall for a sticking accelerator pedal, as announced on January 21, 2010. The company said the decision will enable it to expedite repairs for customers as quickly as possible.

Toyota will recall approximately 270,000 vehicles to correct sticking accelerator pedals on specific Toyota Division models. Toyota has investigated isolated reports of sticking accelerator pedal mechanisms in certain vehicles without the presence of floor mats. There is a possibility that certain accelerator pedal mechanisms may, in rare instances, mechanically stick in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position.

The sales suspension and recall are confined to the 2009-2010 RAV4; 2009-2010 Corolla; 2009-2010 Matrix; 2005-2010 Avalon; 2010 Highlander; 2007-2010 Tundra; 2008-2010 Sequoia; and certain 2007-2010 Camry models.

No Lexus or Scion vehicles are affected. Also not affected are Toyota Prius, Tacoma, Sienna, Venza, Solara, Yaris, 4Runner, FJ Cruiser, and select Camry models, including all Camry Hybrids.

Toyota is taking similar action in the U.S., where 2.3 million vehicles are affected by the recall.

Due to the sales suspension, Toyota is expected to stop vehicle production on seven production lines for the week of February 1, including its plant in Woodstock, Ontario, which builds the Corolla, Matrix and RAV4.

The sticking accelerator pedal recall is separate from ongoing campaigns involving certain Toyota and Lexus vehicles to reduce the risk of pedal entrapment by incorrect or out-of-place accessory floor mats.

Customers requiring more information can visit Toyota Canada.

it's crazy they ended up this way.

I wonder how this will affect them in the long run. I have a feeling that this is their slow decline like GM.

there's so much more. recall expanded to china as per news today.
i think this will affect them big time, but they will still be on top of the big 3 in the end. it'll take time to recover. it's also important for people to know that the parts used in these so-called gas pedal sticking problems are not from toyota. apparently it's from an outside supplier. maybe toyota went to a cheaper supplier, who knows.

    then there's more below:

    January 27, 2010

GM halts sales of Pontiac Vibe

Oshawa, Ontario – General Motors will temporarily halt sales of the Pontiac Vibe, a model based on the Toyota Matrix, in response to actions by Toyota Canada regarding vehicles that may be covered by a recall for a sticking throttle pedal.

Although General Motors did not carry the Pontiac brand forward following the creation of the “New GM,” the California-built Vibe continues into the 2010 model year.

A GM spokesperson said that there have been no customer complaints, and that a recall will be issued for the Vibe once the company receives recall information from Toyota.

Car rental companies pull Toyotas from fleets

Parsippany, New Jersey – Car rental companies Avis Budget Group, Hertz and Enterprise Holdings have removed Toyota vehicles from their North American fleets due to the automaker’s recall regarding the throttle pedal. Enterprise said it is also removing the Pontiac Vibe.

Avis Budget Group said that it has removed approximately 20,000 Toyota vehicles from its fleet, effective January 27, 2010, covering the specific models identified in the recall.

In its statement, the company said, “It is important to note that the safety problems that have led to Toyota’s recall of certain vehicles are believed to arise out of usage over time. Accordingly, we believe that all of the Toyotas in our fleet are safe, given the regular maintenance and the low mileage of our overall fleet, which we believe is the lowest of any major vehicle rental company in the U.S.”

Avis Budget said that Toyota vehicles represent only a small percentage of the overall fleet, and expects to be able to fulfill all customer reservations.

Enterprise Holdings said that customers currently renting the affected vehicles will be placed in alternative vehicles. The recall affects approximately four per cent of the fleet of Alamo Rent A Car, Enterprise Rent-A-Car and National Car Rental.

“The safety of our customers is our number-one concern, so we are acting out of an abundance of caution to remove the affected vehicles from our fleet until Toyota has identified a remedy for the issue,” said Matt Darrah, executive vice-president of North American operations for Enterprise holdings.

Darrah said that the company will not put new Toyota vehicles into service until the situation is corrected, and said that the situation may affect the availability of vehicles in the coming weeks. “We are moving as quickly as possible to minimize any disruption to our customers,” he said.

Hertz said that it is working with Toyota to make necessary repairs as quickly as possible, and that several Toyota models in its rental fleets are not covered by the recall.

    **************************

apparently, ford joins toyota in halting production for their trucks in china.
news said that ford uses the same supplier as toyota.

    toyota is totally going downhill.
thats what they get for hiding the defects they already know for a long time!
in a way it's good this is happening - it'll make their products better and their bring their prices down to a more reasonable level.

i saw a few of their models offering free maintenance for 2-3 yrs.
some models offering less than 0% percentage. never, ever have i seen that for toyota. i guess their "one price" policy BS will no longer be in effect.:D:D:D

    WTF! another recall? :shutup::shutup:

No more manual for Camry SE (which was the only Camry with manual) in Canada... :( The 2.5 with the 6 speed was fun I heard. The base, LE, and SE Camry in the US still has manual for 2011.

I plan on getting a Double Cab Taco with the 4.0 and 6 speed in a few years, but the 2010 Taco is the latest recall, cracks in the driveshaft from the manufacturing process could eventually lead to separation of the driveshaft from the joints. Ouch. Still much love for the Tacoma though.

Any thoughts on the new Sonata? It's nice but it looks a bit oversized. I wonder if the next gen Camry is going to be pushed up into full size territory as well, I hope they don't but the industry appears to be going that way...

stories have been popping up everywhere that this whole toyota recall things is a conspiracy started by the big 3. in some ways, it seems true coz the big 3 have recalls coming out of their ears and they never get this much attention.

but i guess as the sayings goes... anything that goes up will come down.
i heard that toyota is planning to have a massive sale in the next month or so
to get business. it took audi about 10yrs before people started buying and liking their cars again. i dont think it'll take this long for toyota.

    hyundai's are becoming really good.
personally, i would get slightly used hyundai (1 or 2 yr old). they're good, but still not as good as toyota.
camry is pretty much full size already. i think they will keep the size as-is coz the avalon is supposed to be their full size/luxury model. no one will buy the avalon if they make the camry full size.:D

Camry is still just considered mid sized. There is talk about getting rid of the Avalon which hasn't really sold well at all, and then pushing the Camry up a little. It could be a bust though, I think the current Accord is too big.

Toyota still has a lot of loyal followers, they might lose some sales but this is just a black eye, it'll heal.
