    what is that knocking?!!!!!?

What's up everybody. I'm back again. This time something is knocking in my '98 Prizm. I hear/feel a pretty loud knocking coming from what feels like the engine and I can feel it in the floorboards. The knocking only happens when I accelerate from a stop or at around 35 mph. My roomate heard it and said it was the drive axle. I myself thought I had low oil, but the level was fine. I checked my scrape guards and they weren't loose. So I have no freakin idea what this is. If anyone can shed some light on my latest tragedy please let me know. The Prizm has 98,XXXmiles.

    THANKS

...that's pretty odd. If you accelerate from a dead stop, when does the sound go away?

It doesn't always start knocking from a dead stop, but when it does it doesn't knock very long. Then sometimes it will pick back up at around 35mph or it will happen when i let the car coast for a second then when i accelerate it starts again.

this same thing is happening to me. someone help us. i checked trans fluid, oil, put higher octane. it's not something hitting something else it's something to do with the engine.

nevermind i found out what it was. (for anyone having the same prob) There was misfiring going on in the engine. i changed the spark plugs and the wires/coilpacks. everything is running smooth now. i didn't change my spark plugs since i got my car in 2000. the old ones looked really bad. the mechanic i saw said i should (but don't need to) change them once a year to keep the car running top notch.

alright well here's the update on MY knocking problem. I put the car up on a jack, took off the wheels, and put the car in drive. (I did that because the knocking was consistent with the acceleration, not at idle). Immediately the knocking began. The noise is coming from the left side of of the car and it is coming from either the cv boot, cv boot joint, or the axle. So imma have it looked at by a pro and narrow down the problem and then i'll replace it. i'll keep you posted.
