    Dr. Zoidberg Turbo Sound

My turbo has been making this really abnoxious Dr. Zoidberg (Futurama) noise. You know the noise he makes on the show when he is scared and scuttling away. Yeah that one. Well my car sounds like like that when I push in the clutch at 6+ PSI. I thought it was the BOV all this time but today I installed the recirculating BOV and low and behold it still does it (however the car works without the anti engine stall feature of the eManage which is AWESOME!). What the hell is making this noise? Does anyone know. The boost needle bounces around too while it happens. I'm wondering if it might have something to do with where the BOV plugs in to the charge pipe. It is a silicone connector holding everything togather and maybe the pipes are jumping around or something. But this is driving me nuts :D

Sounds like the sound Jesse' hyper-chicken BOV makes. But that's just because it's supposed to sound like that. It does sound like air getting sucked in btw.

I can't tell. It just makes the boost needle jump around all crazy and the car run like that crap for a second. And the sound is like "Wooo Wooo Wooo Woo" really fast.

I agree, especially if the boost needle is bouncing around

Decel, it happens when I push in the clutch to shift at 5-6psi.

    Yeah, but semi high pitched.

That definitely sounds like wastegate flutter to me - a high pitch fluttering sound that pops up between shifts, low boost conditions, or part throttle conditions. Pretty common complaint from the Scooby guys, especially when they opt to replace the OEM downpipe with an aftermarket piece.

Basically the wastegate is popping open at slight boost pressure < 7 PSI. The amount of exhaust "backpressure" that is normally present to help to keep the wastegate closed is reduced and the high pitched fluttering noise becomes more apparent.

Might want to check the wastegate actuator arm for excessive slop and see if you can slightly pre-load the wastegate spring (really depends on your setup - I don't remember off hand).

Awwwww. so my crappy home-brew downpipe is most likly to blame! Hmmm. so you think if I adjust my waste gate actuator arm it might help?

it's quite possible. a little fine tuning goes a long way in the land of performance. :)

Yeah, tell me about it :) 2 days ago I installed my Bosche recirculating dump valve and now my car runs like it did from the factory comming off boost :) I was so impressed however I need to install it better because its kinda "Jerry" rigged right now :D So atleast thats one problem solved. Hey while I'm thinking about it could you email me your street map again. I think I want to give it another go since we figured out that vaccum problem. I would like to compare how different it is to the one this stupid shop I went to made me. I mean they didn't even touch the timing map? Don't you have to retard the timing a bit when you go 7psi? Crazy bastards.

 I wish I had time to do a better job but damn dude. I've had an oil cooler for 2 weeks now and still have not installed because I just don't have time. I was lucky to swap from the Open Air BOV to the Recirc system in such a short amout of time. But when I get a free moment I'm going to form all the pipes and get them to fit nicely and take out all the excess. But one thing is for sure, Recirc on our MAF setups is damn nice, I mean the car runs just like it did from the factory. Now more bucking and backfiring comming off boost :) WOO HOO. But I do miss the loud BOV discharge sound.
