What to do about a ticket

i live in west palm beach FL.
    i got pulled over on a 45 going 68mph.
The cop lowered it down to 59mph.
My ticket is $160 and 3 points in my liscence.
However, i got a ticket 10 months ago, and i can't take the courese to lower my ticket and get rid of my points.
Is there anyway i can go to court , and what can i say. The cop said if I do go to court, he has to say I was going 68mph.
Is my insurance gonna go up?
    Thanks...

Take it like a man and pay the fine... you we're speeding, you got caught and the cop was even nice enough to lower it for you... pay it.

Insurance going up for a second ticket is a guarantee - some insurance companies give you a break for one ticket, get two and its higher premiums for a while. If you under 25 years old - could be even higher. You should be so worried about it - unless you have 9 points on your record right now (I believe they allow no more than 12 points for a 12 month period before they restrict your license to business travel only).

Most cases - I'd say take it to court. If you can come up with a story that the judge will believe - he/she may cut you a break. That is not guaranteed though - 68 in a 45 is just too big of a jump.

The cop already cut you a break by lowering it to 59 (3 point ticket instead of 4 points). Not sure how the courts rule in favor out there - but here in the DC Metro area, unless you have a good excuse, about half the time they will usually work out less fine but no break on the points. Its your word against a cop - best case is if the cop doesn't show up.

Last time I went to court for a BS call on an improper lane change (the car infront of me rearended the car in front of him and I had no choice but to cut the wheel to the right - missed the accident but the cop on the seen, writing a ticket for HOV violation waved me over.) Took it to court - had a valid argument, ended up paying the full fine plus court costs. Sometimes you have to just eat the ticket.

In addition to what fishexpo101 said about the cop not showing up, isn't the only other way you can feasibly fight a ticket is asking if radar gun is properly calibrated? If it ends up being faulty, you don't pay the ticket?

And if it was properly calibrated, he's stuck paying for 68 in a 45. Just pay it..

pay the ticket. and I remember back in NJ and here in VA too...insurance doesn't know about it if its 2 points or less. Anything above that, they're going to find out.

I say just pay it. If you go to court and the cop is there, then you have to pay the ticket and court costs and you'll have to miss work/school. If the cop isn't there, you may not always get off the ticket so easily. especially if you had a previous ticket.

Go to court. Ask for the cop that gave you ticket, radar gun used, and person who calibrated the radar gun to come into court. That will be your only hope. If you got pulled over right before a speed limit sign then take pics and tell judge that speed zone does not start until you pass the sign. Other than that, your screwed.

The only 70mph zones in FL are on the interstate...and there are no 45mph zones on the interstate (barring construction/etc..but IIRC they're 50-55). Either way, he's screwed.

    meh, learn from your mistakes.

i got a 6 point ticket once, now i only speed in california where they dont give a shit.

i'd go take the class again. even though it doesnt count, it shows initiative and remorse -- something that judges like. be sure to mention this in court if you do it.

    good luck to you

i got waived over for "speeding" aka my car looking modified. the cop said i was going 72 in a 55 - everyone else around me was going that fast, but i was going 55. the cop was giving someone else a ticket and didnt have his radar gun on him when i was driving by. i brought it up to the judge but he only offered me a reduced ticket. i appealed it and the cop didnt show up so i won. had he shown up i would have had to pay the reduced ticket. that same judge let a cute girl off a speeding charge of 82 in a 55. biased judges suck. cops suck too i wish they would actually stop a-holes who cause accidents by cutting you off and not those who drive fast.

since you allready used the term " No Low" as we call that in Georgia for a first time traffic ticket I would have to say pay the fine and go take that as grain of salt to slow down.
Your Insurance rate will go up based on 2 tickets possibly to the point of them droping you intirely but i hope that's not the case in your sitaution. Either way there is nothing you can do to change the outcome on this situation and best of luck to you...

i had to finally tell my parents , my mom told me to go to court, she said the judge always reduces or atl least she has to her and all the other ppl that go to court on the same days my mom has gone on, and
as long as u apologize and not be rude it'll be reduced.. she said the only ppl that dont get it reduced are those who admitt it and they didnt comit an error , or they have fake ass stories that everyone in court and the judge laugh at...

My cousin took the class twice in the same 12 months and didn't recieve points or insurance increase for either (He lives in Invernes, FL). I don't know if they just say you can't get away with it twice and you really can or some one just screwed up and didn't catch the fact he took it twice. Might be something to look into though because really your fine isn't all that bad. My roommate just got a ticket close to 300 for doing less than the 23 over you were.
