This will make a nice Trophy

Here is a picture of a snapped connecting rod out of my 1ZZ-FE. I'm going to weld it on to a trophy base and put it on my desk at work :)

Yeah, I'm still floored at how much damage was done to it :) I mean it didn't just break, its deformed, broken and stretched :D

How did that happen? It's not from your car I assume...

yeah it is...its from too much boost and not being tuned right!...I almost did the same thing.......

10psi on a bad tune. And that is from my car :D The shop that is working on my car thinks that I lost oil pressure for a few seconds under full boost and a cylender seized up.

Yeah, I'm having a shop do the work this time around and check out my turbo install, tune the eManage, etc. I don't want to blow another engine, takes too much time and money to correct :D How did you also blow you motor if you don't mind me asking?

if there's a slight gasoline color near the break... it probably overheated, stretched/bent a little bit, and then broke.... then when it broke it probably jammed against something, causing it to deform...

it was similar what happened to the 4ag in the 87 mr2 (had a rod knock the night i bought it)... i had pulled the pan and there were about 20 chunks of rod in there (not even as much as whats shown in your pic was still one piece), 2 holes in the block (either side) and a bent/deformed rod hanging on the piston

Yeah the carnage was pretty hardcore :) The good news is the guy at the shop let me sit in on his tuning session so I could learn what he was doing and he taught me how to build a street map from scratch without a dyno or wideband O2, he of course recommends these for finer tuning but said it was not required to get the car in a good running state at low boost. He also found a problem with the Greddy pressure sensor install. The boost was being picked up off the turbo which was the wrong way to do it. He hooked it to the map sensor so it could pull vaccum, he also enabled a bunch of crap on the emanage like tracing and stuff I didn't even know existed. One of the coolest things he did was hook a hand driven vaccume/boost tester to the pressure sensor so we could get the voltage readouts exactly at each PSI so he could compute the fuel map without first driving the car and recording the values. I thought it was a pretty cool thing and I learned a lot so it was worth the money. And the best part of all is the engine they tossed in has 220 218 220 222 compression :D How freaking nice is that! And my plugs come out clean and don't look like charcol which is also nice :D

one of the things i noticed while installing an emanage was that the available documentation for 00-02 corollas exist primarily for automatic transmissions. also the table on vamps page is wrong regarding the cylinder firing order. not sure if it makes a difference at all but if you wired your car up like this it is wrong:
    greddy - toyota
    ch1 - igt1
    ch2 - igt2
    ch3 - igt3
    ch4 - igt4

    the correct way is

    ch1 - igt1
    ch2 - igt3
    ch3 - igt4
    ch4 - igt2

good luck with proper tuning this time, and running well. sorry for useless info, just throwing it out there to help other people also.

omg james, lol. Thats probaly what happened when I had mine installed. Cus the engine sounded like it was only firing on 3 cylinders and gas was spitting out the exhaust. Oh well, glad I didnt pursue it anymore lol.

No that is great info, Lucky for me I already had it hooked up right because I used Vortex's install guide :) But that is really good to know.

Woah! URL ME :) I also have a guy at the shop that worked on my car tell me that they took a Suzuki Scoup hard wired the waste gate and ran it 3 full runs down a drag track pulling mid 13's before it threw a rod. These engines can do some pretty crazy shit on stock internals (be it only for a few minutes hehe :))

Well my timing was off, then i found out that my tensioner went bad I dont know if thats from the turbo being on and not tuned.....and I've found other little things leading to the loss of oil pressure too...so yeah...TUNING IS A BIG THING!!!...it was fun while it lasted..

Ouch... Did you end up getting another motor tossed in? Are you still boosted? How much boost were you running? Were you running larger injectors and fuel pump? Sorry about so many questions I'm just very curious. I just purchased an oil pressure guage but I need to buy a t-fitting before I install it so my factory oil sensor can stay attached. I want to keep an eye on that thing like a hawk. I can't afford to blow another engine, this new one costed me $900 and has 30k miles on it so with the turbo tuned this should last me a good long time. I hope.....

not boosted anymore i sold everything... i was running 630cc at first then i switched to supra 315cc injectors and they worked great...I had the supra walbro 255 fuel pump....I was only running 8psi...so my engine didnt blow up like yours...but did get some damage...my compression got messed up...but now i installed a oil pressure gauge under the hood and watch it....so far I still have to find a vaccum leak..but i'm pretty sure its the gasket from the manifold....but my engine is still running after changing out some parts....I got lucky i guess.
