I saw this around 5pm... you can bet the talk of the next few days is going to be "how dangerous this sport is." It's really really sad that it happened, but this is the sort of thing that occurs in racing.

Nah, any form of racing is dangerous, and every few years this happens. This was just a freak thing......no matter how safe you try to make things, there is always a few scenarios that will occur that you cant prevent. Indy is pretty safe. This will only make is safer in the long run though

Yea every sport has it's risks man, specially this one and even though accidents of this level rarely occur in racing and stuff it doesn't mean that is dangerous and what not even in soccer many people get injured with maybe not life threatning injuries (most of the time but there's a few cases) but with career ending ones. I saw some of the footage of the crash on the news this morning and he hit practically at full speed, for that other dude he was lucky that he hit the rear end of the car or they both would've been dead.

I'm talking about the sports stations blowing it out of proportion b/c they don't/never follow racing. Death has always been a part of racing, I know "back in the day" (and this is really way back) in F1 at Nurburgring, they would run the long course and people wouldn't come back to the finish line.... kinda scary. And I think Jackie Stewart won one of his championships b/c the top 4 people ahead of him died.

I dont recall that 4 people died ahead of Stewart.

Senna and Earnhardts deaths are what really shook up the racing world.....both lead to huge safety improvements.

    Very sad. :(
Its bound to happen though in a sport like that. Like E said, situations like that just come up sometimes.
