yea the ss isnt bad, for a new chevy motor. But i'd prefer to stay in the toyota family, and there will be a lot more aftermarket support for the tc then the "ford motorsports performance" parts that will be avaliable for the ss.

Also, the SS 4 door only has 171hp... not the supercharged 205hp engine which is only available in the Cobalt Coupe SS...

more aftermarket support? The Cobalt SS is based off of the Corvette. They are already pushing into the 350+hp mark with a few bolt-ons. So knock it all you want but that thing is a beast with support out the arse. Toyota's 4 cylinder market just cant compete with it performance wise.

TSX has a SAAB motor? :wtf:

    for a little more info:
the non-supercharged SS has a 2.4L Ecotec - this motor is also used in the HHR, and contains VVT technology. yes, that's toyota technology in it...and i BELIEVE there's a blower out for it already.

so pay attention to your posts, particularly when it's something like that.

Didn't know the the Cobalt SS motor is based on the Corvette motor.

Even so, 350+ HP with bolt ons would be better than what the DSM guys get, so I doubt that.

Where exactly did you get information saying the Cobalt SS is based off of the Corvette? First time I hear a claim like that...

The Ecotec engine is a pretty decent engine to come out of GM, definitely an engine they needed... considering they even have it in SAAB's (with a turbo...) definitely gives the engine alot of credibility.

its suspension and performance aspects or drawn off the vette, not the motor itself (but obviously on a different chassis and with a 4 cylinder engine). 350hp is very common with a few minor mods (www.cobaltss.net) It was made to "cover" for the Camaro while it is on a break to please those with performance in mind and a want for decent fuel economy.

...and who said anythng about DSM's? If you consider DSM's to be tops in it's class then you need to get with the times because weather you want to believe it or not this Cobalt ss/sc will blow it out of the water. its a charge-cooled roots style blower with plenty of potential, a factory installed LSD and a light weight body. It will literally eat a GS-T.

Honda helped GM developed the Ecotech. Basically it's a bastardized version of the K series.

Where did you read that it was drawn off the corvette? Not saying youre wrong, but I havent been able to find anything saying that.

And I think all of the cobalts are UGLY. Even the modded ones on the forum linked above are ugly. Nothing more than an updated cavalier, and I hated all cavaliers too.

It might be *inspired* from the Corvette, as an affordable Corvette alternative or some PR bullshit like that... but... yeah... first time I ever hear that it's drawn off the Corvette...

while honda might have helped with the original design, GM took it far beyond Honda.

I highly doubt that. Its a glorified cavalier, nothing more

a glorified Cavalier which is quicker than an SRT-4 neon, and will stomp 99% of the cars on this forum (mine included). Im not defending it for a purpose, I can care less what you guys think of a Cobalt. I dont own a Cobalt and never will... im just stating facts here so dont take this as me really "defending", haha.

As for the "Corvette" reference I'll see if I can find it. I think I saw it in Motortrend or something like that. I can picture the article in my head, just cant recall which magazine it was in.

    Brian,
    [Off Topic]
That reminds me, you know how much hp you running with the pulleys and whatnot?
    [/Off Topic]

Yeah it may be fast, and that is cool, but its still chevy, not too mention domestic. I may be biased, I'm sure I am, but I don't ever see myself buying a domestic company's vehicle, regardless of how fast it is. Too many Japanese Engineered cars that I wold love to have first. :D

    Prove that.

And most of the newer SUVs would stomp a lot of cars on this board....that doesnt really mean anything.

Ehhn I don't know bout stomping the srt-4. Doesn't it have like 25hp on the cobalt?

I dunno if I had to choose between domestics, I guess I would go with the srt-4 over the cobalt ss. Dodge has Mopar. :) I like them. Some of the R&D their doing with turbos and whatnot is just really cool.

Who is Chevy's tuning thing called?

Chevy.... hell GM in general is just sad. The only car they've consistantly gotten right is the Corvette. Thats the only current Chevy I'd want. Most Chevy's out now are just buttugly.

The HHR.... haha WTF were they smoking when they came up with that? They copied Chryslers horrible PT Cruiser design. I drove an HHR and it felt less connected to the road than any car ive driven short of a Buick.
