How does the distance change? Because your hand is closer to the gears, so you think the distance is less, therfore allowing you to shift faster?

The only way to shorten the throw of a shifter without altering the location of the shift knob is to change the leverage ratio by repositioning the pivot. The diagram above shows how much the stock shifter would have to be shortened in order to match the throw of a short-throw shifter. Raising the pivot slightly results in a significant change in leverage. Additional effort will be required to make each shift if the throw is shortened.

Well I'm a midget so it works out good :) 5'9" over here! Besides, the stock shifter is like off a kenworth tractor, it already sits way to height. However I guess that is subject to opinion like the rest of this :D

This wasn't an arguement. This started as an informative post about what actual short shifters are. I even made a point a few posts down to say this wasn't an attack on you so that you wouldn't construe it as just that.

And what is stated by TWM (what I quoted from at the beginning, but I'll throw the link up again for future clarification http://www.twmperformance.com/faq/) is that a true short shifter is A-shorter but B- (most importantly) a decreased angle which is what Vortex, E, and myself have been saying.

So, this wasn't an attack. When the topic was brought up about cutting a short shifter down I took the opportunity to post up how an actual one works to clear up any misconceptions.

No need to apologize.......there are right ways and wrong ways to do things.
