    Was there a factory 7afte?

    This was taken from the following thread, http://www.corolla-racing.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6614&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=7afte at Corolla-Racing.com. Toyotaspeed90 mentions that there was a low production "factory turbo 7afe." Anyone have any details on this? Does it exist? I hadn't heard anything about it before, so it just struck me as odd.

    it was in austrailia. 2000 model year only. i want to say it was like some 'gold edition' and they came painted only in gold.

    i remember seeing an ad for them (like newspaper ad) online like 2-3 years ago

    The car it came in is the AE112R Corolla Sportivo, if I'm not mistaken.

    "The AE112R sportivo was only produced in limited numbers...from march 2001. But It had the 1.8 7AFTE which produced max power of 115kW @ 5600rpm and max torque of 237Nm @ 3600rpm. Just going on what i have heard these figures may have been overstated..."

    115kW = 156hp
    237Nm = 175ft-lb

    Decent specs... love the torque number, would have been a fun car...

    hp could be better, but I wonder if the internals are beefed up? Sounds like a nice platform to start from.

    My *guess*, and this is only a guess... is that the internals would be beefed up, ever single manufacturer that I can think of that offered a FI engine has always touted the fact that they beefed up the internals to make it more reliable... in this case, maybe using some pieces from the 4AGZE? Would definitely be a nice starting point for alot of pre-98 Corolla's.

    I wonder how many were produced... 156hp.. 5-6psi's? I guess the 7afe internals are pretty beafy to handle boost and still be under factory warranty.

    edit:
    Found a not so great review of it:

    Bigger piping and mandrel bends would add some power. Better yet, a bigger turbo and/or more boost would hopefully get the car over the 200hp mark.

    Here's one more site with good info.

    http://www.carsales.com.au

    So from what I coul figure the Turbo kit were designed by TOM's and most of the OEM equipment (clutch/suspension/brakes) were upgraded with TRD parts.. pretty spiffy. But the most important thing here is it is proven that a stock 7A-FE can handle 8psi safely daily driven (with proper tuning). using a VF27 (IHI RHF4B) turbo. I've worked with IHI turbos before, they're most famous for being OEM WRX turbos.. from what I can figure out it is a small ball bearing turbo with a .63AR, ~400 CFM at 14.7 PSI, ~420 CFM at 18 PSI. Amazingly the CFM output compares to a T3 60trim!
