    So is it offensive?

Teacher got suspended for using the word Nigga(h). He said he didn't mean it as N*gger. Now do any of you find it to mean the same thing? or do you find a different meaning in each.

Being raised in the hood..I always used the word Nigga as a greeting or to refer to another male. I guess it was a phase cause I rarely if not never use it anymore. Nigga to me means like my boy, or a way to greet someone. And of course we all know N*gger really means an insult.

What I DON'T understand is that all black people and hispanics can get away with using the word Nigga but white people can't. Alot say they shouldn't be using it cause they're "not allowed". fair? not fair? ur thoughts?

Teacher should have known better IMO. Every one everywhere is constantly looking to get lawsuits on people so the teacher deserves what he's gettin if he's going to be too stuipd to realize that.

I realize he just got suspsended, but I mean, people just need to think things through before runnin their mouths

I agree.. a teacher should know better than to use a word that can be construed as another, it doesent matter if the word has come to means something else, the original meaning of the root word (I won't mention it, but we all should know) is not something that a teacher shout use EVER not in everyday speach not in a lesson, EVER.

You grew up in the hood?

Well I believe that since the word nigga is derived from the derogatory word ******, people should watch what the hell they are saying and who they are saying it to. I mean I remember teachers in a few of my college classes saying, but they said it with a reason to get a point across. I understand I live in a dominate "white" area but still, I am sure my teacher knew their limits. They have yet to get in trouble so I am sure they're ok. I myself do not say the word much, although I do listen to rap/hiphop where they say the word often, it really is not a big deal to me. I could care less, honestly, if someone said to me, 'hey whats up nigga' or if someone said 'that nigga ... etc... " It doens't bother me who says it.

    EDIT:
it blocked the derogatory word of nigga on the forum, you know what it is.

We had a discussion about this in a military class. The term, nigga, athough supposed to be a neutral term of endearment, still causes altercation if the "wrong" race uses it. That should be enough to say the term should not be used. Either way whether it is offensive or not, it is still not professional to use such terms. If we're caught saying that, we can get administrative action.

I feel bad the teacher is suspended, but they should be lucky they are not fired. He/she should know better.

yes the teacher was stupid to even say it. But he doesn't deserve it. What skillz brought up about it being ok for certain races and not for others is messed up. It shouldn't be said by anybody imo

how does he NOT deserve it? He's a teacher that should be setting an example. I think he was trying to be a smartass about it. Its not professional to speak like that either. He could of handled that kid in a different manner but chose not to.

"its offensive" is how he feels.

but nowadays, you may as well get over letting that word get to you, because it's the 'in' thing to feel like you can or be able to say that word around a black guy.

    he should know better.

it might be okay if you are black or good friends with the black person that you are talking to. as long as you know the person wont be offended it should be okay
