ok... there are a couple of things here. all are my opinion.

    1) your dean needs to pull his head out of his ass (you can quote me on that)
    2) he has no right to invade your privacy by doing what he's doing, its a childish thing in sending out letters and i find it very unprofessional. he reminds me of a kindergarten tattle tale.

and last but not least and by far the biggest.

    3) If anyone is so concerned about what their parents might or might not see on the internet about them, they need to really think about what content they choose to place on the internet. For instance, if you're that worried about what your parents think of you, don't post up pictures or discussions about things you've done publically. Myspace has a feature where blogs cannot be read by anyone other than your friends, so keep your conquest, drug, alcohol and near death stories locked away in a place that only your closest can see. Second, if you're that bothered by what you do in the eyes of others, perhaps you shouldn't be doing it at all much less posting about it and putting up pictures of it on the internet. I for one have a policy of not allowing any material that I wouldn't let my own mother (or grandmother) see onto the internet. I don't pretend to be one thing to my family and another to the world, I am the same person all around. So, if people are that worried about it, don't post it and most definitely don't bitch about it when someone finds it and confronts you about it and you're embarassed.

    *steps off his soapbox*

btw, hella, this in no way was an attack at you - it was an overall frustration. :)

This is old news unfortunately. MANY schools, including mine, the University of Delaware, have already made it their policy to do this. Basically what they say is that Myspace is a public forum, which is true. In fact, some employers actually check these kind of webpages when choosing new employees. At UD, RA's (Resident Assistant's) have started checking these, and especially facebook profiles. If you've got a picture of yourself or someone else drinking a beer, or with alcohol in your room or within reach they will sentence you under UD's judicial system. I know a few people who have been busted like this and I think its rediculous. Granted, it is happening so people should just be smart and remove things that might blatantly get them in trouble, or like was said above, make their profile friends-only. Even more, the City police and their policies, especially anti-party / noise violation are 100x worse, but thats a separate issue unique to delaware. Hell even other schools have come out and publicly called the enforcement of our noise violations unconstitutional, which is true. Back to the Myspace/Facebook etc. issue. What about if you just have references to smoking weed in your profile, or you list it as an interest? Are schools going to start considering that a viable reason to hit you with a violation? Are they going to start notifying parents and say "You're kid is smoking Marijuana"? At least at UD weed is treated EXACTLY the same as alcohol if your caught by anyone other than Newark police. Most schools charge a pretty hefty fine for 1st and 2nd alcohol/drug violations, so I think this is really just yet another ploy for the University to fleece even more money from students, as if parking services and completely unwarranted fines for noise violations arent bad enough. Its a shame colleges are becoming more and more like this. I used to live next to a guy in his early 30's who went to UD 10 years ago and its absolutely incredible the things they did and got away with compared to today. Hell its become far more Nazi-like even in the 3 years ive been here.

I think ive made my point, so I'll get off my high horse and stop the rant. Sorry for the long read.

He has every right to do that. Any webpages with negativity about him can be considered slander.

i agree what you both said... its just just that i got friends who already have enough shit to deal with with their parents... and for the parents to find out them drinking would just make the situation worse... i mean, im not concerned about myself... because when i go to a party, i always end up driving... which means i dont drink... i drink at home when i know im not driving no more... and yes, my parents do know i drink... and they trust me enough to let me... (they know i love my car waaaay toooo much thats why they also know theres no way in hell i'll be driving my car) anyways, i just got really pissed off coz the dean always give me shit about my car... when i drive by and he hears my radio, he tells me off about it the next day... so i posted this rant because its just piling up on me already... i need to steam off...

when i didnt pay for a damn theology book, he tells me "you can buy your new rims and not pay for a book?" i mean he's a jerk...

i undersand him getting pissed off because he saw a page about him with lies all over it... but why does he have to make our parents go through OUR myspace pages?

    so Ratemyprofessor.com is slander?

Thats the thing, its not really yours. You don't legally own the page and any info you post on it is fair game for anyone to look at since it's a public forum.

First off the dean is not forceing people to view your myspace's. He is just making the parent aware. And secondly its not a violation of privacy because anyone and there brother can go look up your myspace with nothing more then your name :) However I do think the Dean is being a retard :D

eh.. but still i know for a fact... that guy is pissing off the whole school... no one likes him... even the people who dont talk etc... and this letter would really grind everyone's gears...

i just found out something... someone got in trouble because the dean saw that someone got drunk at a party and everything... so the dean calls that person's parents and told them about it... so he/she got in serious trouble for it...

the principal talked to us about taking out the name of our school if we are representing it in a bad way... this i understand...

they also told us to take any profanity from our pages and shit like that... this i think is bull fucking shit...

and they said if we dont, were gonna face serious consequences and shit...
