what would be a good remote starter to get (without the alarm) that would work in conjunction with the factory keyless entry system?

i got my mom one for her 05 rolla, it works with the factory keyless entry, as soon as she gets home i'll look at the name of it, but its really good, works perfectly and never had a problem with it. Has excellent range and will start up twice if cannot start the first time in the cold, it iwll wait 20 seconds and retry for a longer interval

don't know about the entry system but bulldog security is crap. i have ultrastart but i have manual doors and windows. works like a charm

You cant go wrong with DEI product.

I'm about to pull my add on remote start system to install a new compustar alarm system with RS built in. It's a DEI valet, easy install.

Keep in mind, if the compustar is not installed by an authorized dealer, you void the warrenty. You also void it if you buy the alarm from an unauthorized dealer. I went thru this when i got mine. i did my research on it. So if anything goes wrong with the brain or anything, you might as well get a new alarm cause they won't cover it.

Thats the only downfall that I found from CompuStar.

Did something go wrong with the brain on your unit? From my experiences installing compustar and DEI alarms they rarely have any issues. And don't DEI void warranty for the same reason as well?

Nothing went wrong with my CompuStar, but I researched it just incase it did. Cause you can get a CompuStar on ebay for mad cheap. I looked at my options. And I'm not sure about DEI. But I'm sure there are more options as far as places to get things installed and what not for DEI. cause around my way there were only two spots that sold CompuStar.

Yup, thats my plan. There are a few local places in my area that are compustar dealers but I hear they charge anywhere from 4-600. I believe ebay has them for 175-250 and I can do a cleaner install in 2hrs. What model do you have? I'm thinking of getting the 2wss because of the increase range and the remote uses AA instead of AAA batteries. But the 2w900 has a larger screen and they clam they engineered it for increased batt life.

I have the 2WSSR. It goes 1.25 miles for a signal range. Never had an issue with it except the fact that its sensitive. But I rather it be like that cause if u even mess with the handles, windows, tires, hood, etc, the alarm will chirp.

The 2WSSR doesn't allow for a companion remote. The new versions do. Which is a benefit cause if you lose one remote, then you always have a 2nd. The shop that did my install charged me 550.00. And it would of been 900.00 with the remote start (which I didn't want cause I had to leave my key under the dash in the bypass module). They also did the cleanest job.

I went to another spot and they wanted 650.00 for a Viper (w/remote start) installed. The shop i got the alarm at wanted 500 for the Viper, but suggested against it saying I'd get more for my money with the CompuStar. But that Viper didn't bring the hood or trunk "triggers" and it didn't have all the features that the CompuStar did. At least with CompuStar, you can program the 2 AUX buttons and it brings all the things u need including the hood and trunk triggers. The guy who did my install played with mine and tried to program the remote to open the trunk when I pressed a button. But since the hatch is so heavy, it wont' lift up that much so it won't work right. But i rarely go back there so I'm not stressed.

Oh and I go a month or more with the same battery. Depending on how much you use the remote, it can be less or more then that estimate. I barely use my car so it does last me a while.

if you get a DEI alarm i would generally recommend getting a different brands siren. the DEI sirens sound just about the same as 90% of the alarms out there. I liked clifford because they had great features and their sirens were actually different (and luckily I had bought the alarm in the corolla way before clifford got bought by DEI).

I've always used Scytek remote starts. 4 of my friends have them now and they work great. Good range. I would say a bit over 1/4 mile. Those 2 way remotes with LCD screens go through batteries like crazy though.

whats the average price for an installation? and where should i get it? i remember best buy was pretty pricey when i called htem for a quote.

ijust got one from bulldog security for christmas, has an lcd remote and everything, model is deluxe 200. I'll install it within the next few weeks

Well if it's a brand new install. Depends... anywhere from $300-$600 around here , thats with the autostart.
