    Potential Big Snowstorm

Local forecasters are being very general about this......right now theyre saying 4-6 inches, with the potential of 3-4 times more than that...haha. 18-22 inches, lol. I guess we'll see!

"The wintry mix could also lead to flight problems at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, which is a major hub of American Airlines. Airline spokesman Tim Wagner says American crews are ready for their first major de-icing event of the winter season at DFW. He adds the airline will work to mitigate any spillover effects to Thursday, should conditions deteriorate to the point of forcing flight delays and cancellations.

AccuWeather.com is forecasting the potential Wednesday for 1-3" of snow across Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and parts of Kentucky, with 3-6" forecast from southwestern Missouri into southern Indiana, and a mix of snow, sleet and ice across Arkansas and Tennessee, which will lead to more hazardous travel conditions.

By Thursday the storm will push the snow and ice into the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys, once again leading to potential for air and highway travel woes from the Great Lakes to the Carolinas. The heaviest snowfall is forecast to be in the region from southeastern West Virginia across Virginia and Maryland into southeastern Pennsylvania. AccuWeather.com is forecasting the potential for up to a foot of snow in the area. Ice will be a serious problem for residents of North Carolina and southern Virginia.

By Thursday the storm will have the potential to develop into a full-blown Nor-Easter, producing heavy snow from the Mid-Atlantic States into New England on Thursday and Friday.

A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL MOVE NORTHEAST-WARD FROM THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER VALLEY ACROSS THE OHIO VALLEY THURSDAY AND THURSDAY NIGHT. THIS SYSTEM WILL BEGIN TO BRING SNOW TO SOUTHERN EAST CENTRAL OHIO...NORTHERN WEST VIRGINIA AND WESTERN MARYLAND BY LATE THURSDAY AFTERNOON. THE SPEED OF THIS SYSTEM WILL CAUSE THIS SNOW TO QUICKLY OVER-SPREAD THE REST OF THE REGION THURSDAY EVENING. THE CURRENT PREDICTED TRACK OF THIS STORM WILL CAUSE SNOWFALL INTENSITY TO RAPIDLY INCREASE THURSDAY NIGHT INTO EARLY FRIDAY MORNING. THIS SYSTEM HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BRING SIGNIFICANT ACCUMULATIONS IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. 6 INCHES OR GREATER IS POSSIBLE BY DAWN FRIDAY.

THE EXACT TRACK AND SPEED OF THIS STORM WILL BE CRUCIAL TO SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ACROSS THE AREA. THERE WILL BE CHANGES AND UPDATES TO THE FORECAST.

Call me crazy, but I just stopped listening. AA county schools closed 2 hours early on Monday because they said we would have 3-6 inches, how much did we get? Like 2 or 3 years ago, when I was still in HS, they closed school for the day because they said it was a 100% chance of snow. Nothing. Whenever someones mentions the word snow, people here go crazy, all the grocery stores get flooded with people buying food and water like the apocolypse arrived. They act like if there are 3 inches of snow on the ground, the world stops turning. When they were talking about the snow for Monday/Tuesday, I actually heard someone say everyone should get to the store because if more than 3 inches falls, no trucks will be able to make deliveries.

Michael and his wife live in Minnesota. One winter morning while listening to WCCO, they hear the announcer say, "We are going to have 8 to 10 inches of snow today. You must park your car on the even numbered side of the street, so the snowplow can get through." Michael's wife goes out and moves her car.

A week later, while they were eating breakfast, the radio announcer says, "We are expecting 10 to 12 inches of snow today. You must park your car on the odd numbered side of the street so the snowplow can get through." Michael's wife goes out and moves her car again.

The next week they are having breakfast again, when the radio announcer says, "We are expecting 12 to 14 inches of snow today. You must park......", then the electric power goes out. Michael's wife is very upset and, with a worried look on her face, she says, "Honey, I don' know what to do. Which side of the street do I need to park on so the plow can get through?"

With the love and understanding in Michael's voice, like all the men who are married to blondes exhibit, Michael says, "Why don't you just leave it in the garage this time.

Pretty much. Not just Harford County though, PG county is bad about it, AA county. People don't even need to see the snow, just hear someone say it, and they flip out.

yea....18-22...sure. I'm still waiting for the other 4in they said would fall 2 nights ago. the most we got was about 2in. The forecasters in the DC area are NEVER right! They can't even get close to a good prediction. Every damn winter they can never predict anything right. One time I heard one of them say the snow storm will be "light". So I didn't think anything of it. Next thing you know there's like 6in of snow outside the next morning...

Typically it's a hit or miss on snow totals. The only time I have ever seen a forecast absolutely nail on the head was...Close to 3 years ago here in Denver. They said, "This is a real storm, prepare for 5-7 feet by the end of tuesday night." (This was monday night) Sure enough, we woke up to about 2 feet of heavy wet snow tuesday morning...by 5 P.M. tuesday night, my entire car was buried. In fact it didn't get dug-out until Saturday morning there was so much snow.

    As for now, I drive a Tundra, with a brand-new set of BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A Ko's & 4WD. I say, let it snow.

hit or miss...but its been a miss for some, if not all, forecasters around here for a while..lol. When I was back in NJ, they would usually be right around what they predicted. It was never right on the money, but they were pretty accurate. For parts of PA that I've been in, they've also been real close.

but damn dc forecasters like to play guessing games..lmao.

Exactly, when I lived in PA, I always watched the weather to see what it would be like, and they wre right most of the time. Here I don't even bother to turn it on, because they are always wrong. It's like they roll a die to get the forecast.

I also think that MD is one of those weird regional areas that has screwed up jets streams, due to the mountains, the bay, and ocean.

I think that this may actually end up being something. I have a breakfast sandwich riding on....heh

Snow in Maryland is something to get excited about. Here it's good to see a fresh blanket to cover up dirty snow, nothing special. Everyone (mostly) is used to driving in snow at -40 up here. The thing about MD is that it rarely goes below zero so everything is wet and slick, which makes for bad driving conditions.

I hope you all get a blizzard and have fun staying home from work and school. :)

MOTHERFUCKER! I dont want snow. my finals start next week! Besides the past snow dirtied up my rims from the salt. I never actually drove in any snow, so we'll see how the 215/45/17 Falken 512's do in snow. hopefully not worse than the stock tires.

Well, I'm sitting here at work, that should say enough. Cancelled school for the kids though. I knew it was Bullshit. Of course now it will probably pile up like crazy over the weekend when no one wants it to.

I got a 2hr delay opening at work. Only got an inch and a half around me AND it was all iced up. I had to bang on the snow in order to break the ice that covered it so I can clean the cars. definately no 3-6in..lol. and u can forget about the 18-22in cause it'll never happen...lol.

We had a 2hr delay too, but like I said, I'm still here. Slight ice on the back window, but nothing major, yup, complete BS.

Hm... my corolla handles pretty good in the snow. Yeah the tires do spin on ice, but it's not bad.

It's pretty warm up here right now. About 28 above. It feels good outside with a t-shirt on. :)

It's going to get back to normal around monday. :(

I stayed home today! Took my son to daycare, went and bought him some boots, got some more xmas shopping done, came home and shoveled my sidewalk and driveway, then went over to my grandparents house thats being built to help shovel the snow off of the second floor (no roof yet), then came home and have been playing PS2. Going to go wake up my wife soon (she worked last night so she sleeps during the day), then go pick up my son, then take him to grandmas for an overnight stay, then wifey and i are going to her holiday xmas work party.....going to dance and drink. Then come home and you know what again
