    Badge Removal

I was curious about the best/safest way to go about removing OEM badging on a 03+ Corolla. I'm sure someone here has much more experience doing it than I. Plus who wants to screw up paint on a brand new car?

I would find a key-chain type card (blockbuster, jewel card, dominicks, etc) or some other plastic card and just slide it under the emblem and work it around until the glue comes off. The just use some adhesive remover to get the rest of the glue off of the car. DO NOT USE ANYTHING METAL, it will scratch the paint

I did my 00 corolla (when I had it) by doing the following.

    1. Put HOT water and soap in a spray bottle.
    2. Sprayed the hell out of the emblem.
    3. Took thick fishing line and worked my way around the back of the emblem.
    4. Once its off, dry the area.
    5. Put Goo Gone on the area and rubbed out the glue with a tough towel
    6. Washed the car and then waxed it.

I did this when it was cold as hell out. Thats why I used HOT water.

Here is another way I was taught that works really well.

    1) Floss it off just like you would your teeth

You literally put dental floss around your fingers and start it under the edge of the emblem or along side it and work it back and forth like a saw. It takes away the adhesive but does not damage the paint. Then when your done get some Goo Gone stuff and wipe her clean.

I ended up with outlines of the letters in the paint when I did mine. I don't know if its just the paint hasn't been exposed to the "elements" or what, but its really annoying.

    Phantom Emblem

Yah the Phantom Emblem thing is something I want to avoid... I'd think it would be especially bad on black paint if I waited too long. Hence the reason I want to do it now. Thanks everyone for the help!

Anyone: Did the Goo Gone screw up your clear coat?

You have to polish that area out - since they slap them emblems on there right after the paint is freshly cured, the paint below never really got a chance to "breathe". A little polishing compound (non-abrasive to be safe) and an electric polisher will take it right out.

As for Goo Gone - should be safe, but you still have to be a bit careful. It is Citrus and petroleum based, given enough time - it will damage the paint. But if you wash the area, polish, and wax - you should be good to go.

dental floss works the best. for newer cars the left over double sided tape can be removed by just rubbing your finger against it. older cars might need "goo gone".

I took mine off several days after I got the car.

You should pick up a new trunk lid at a junk yard and shave that center panel out with some sheet metal and bondo, that would look wicked.

I got bored and did a little photoshop on your picture to see what it would look like and I still think it would be awesome.

I tried moving the emblem down and it still looked out of place because there is so much surface area on the back. I decided to just make another photoshop without the emblem. I edited the post above so you can see what it looks like.

Damn I'm having way to much fun now.
