    how to remove/install axleshafts

If I were to remove the axleshafts for some reason like repair work and then reinstall them afterwards, is there anything I would need to know before installing them back in the transaxle? Would I need to install a new clipring on the end of the axleshaft where it goes into the transaxle? Also, is it safe to remove both axleshafts from the transaxle at the same time (I thought I read somewhere that I would have to install a dummy shaft into the transaxle so the differential would not move out of place). Just want to make sure.

just drain out the tran fluid first b4 u start ne thing...u dont need to install new clip ring but if u do get a new axleshaft check to see the size of it to see if it is the same size of the old one... see if it is as strong as the old one and u can take out both of them at the same time it dont matter

    1. Drain all your fluid from your tranny.
    2. Jack up your car and remove both wheels.
    3. Remove the cotter pins and retainers on both axles
    4. While someone holds the brakes - use a 30mm Axle Socket (just a deep well 30mm) to break loose the axle retainer nuts.
    5. Remove the cotter pin and castle nut from each side where the tie rod connects to the steering knuckle.
    6. Remove the three bolts from the VERY BOTTOM under the control arm. This is where the entire unit bolts to the lower control arm.
    7. Remove the axle nut.
    8. Push down on the lower control arm to make the bolts from the steering unit clear the holes on the LCA. Once this is done you should be able to pull the entire unit off the spline from the axle leaving the axle to hang free. You may have to hit the end of the axle with a hammer to knock it loose.
    9. Once the axle is hanging free from the transmission, you can dislodge it using a prybar. be careful not to damage the boots in any way or the seals on the transmission.
    10. To reinstall make sure the ring around the end of the spline (transmission side) is pointed down. There will be a gap on the ring, simply just make sure its down. Once the spline is in place, one good shove should lock it back into place.
    11. Replace everything in reverse of how you took it off.
