I think you'd be safe to hit 100 at least in both your Civic or in a Corolla. The cars will probably be perfectly stable in a straight line at that speed, but just don't expect coming to a stop to happen in a hurry.

Might as well make this thread more interesting, whats the fastest you guys have ever driven? Here's my list (nothing too impressive)

    2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP - 124mph / 199kmh (Limiter)
    1994 Toyota Corolla - ~116mph / 185kmh (Limiter)
    1994 Acura Integra - 135mph / 218kmh (Drag Limited)
2005 Toyota Corolla XRS - 137mph / 220kmh (Let go of the gas)
    2003 Hyundai Tiburon - 128~130mph / 205~210kmh (Let go of the gas)
???? Ford F-450 Cube Van - Maybe 65mph / 110kmh (Didn't really want to go any faster, lol)

110 or so In my moms 02 Solara. I got pulled over too, but by that time I'd already slowed down a little bit.

What state? Going over 95 or so is grounds for an arrest in Georgia.

Delaware. It is here too. I think its actually a felony if its over 100, but im not sure. It was a long while ago too, a few weeks before my 18th birthday. I was going almost 3 times the speedlimit depending on when the cop saw me. I dont think ive driven faster than 80 or so since then either, since getting let go for something like that was insanely lucky.

Stock tires, and inexperienced drivers... hehe... 110 and 135mpg is quite different too... cars handle quite differently (at least my teg does)... but yah, tehcnically, pretty much because of the tires...

Actually, I take this back. On a long stretch of highway that was downhill, a friend of mine actually got the car to around what would have been 115... hard to tell cause it was past where our sucky speedos read. The limiter didn't kick in, so we didn't reach whatever speed threshold that's set to.

Would the limiter still kill the engine if you're coasting past the governed speed?

160mph in an AUDI S4 with aftermarket turbos
    145mph in a Porsche 924 Turbo.

Both were late at night and on the highway.

About the tire comment - stock tires are "S" rated for 112mph, which is where the governor (at least on my '98 -- apparently others state theirs are different..?)..so it would make sense that the governor is set to the tires' capability. However, I could be wrong. *shrug*

I've had my Corolla to the limiter, and my MR2 to an indicated 120mph.

I also doubt that the speedometers are all accurate; every time I drive by a radar sign (tells your speed), I'm indicating 3mph faster than the sign says. This has held solid for several radars..not just one. I also doubt speedometers are too accurate much past 100mph - so indicated 120 might very well be 110..unless I can have someone hit me on radar, I wouldn't bet on an indicated speed.

Then again, that's just me. :)

ye's might not believe this but my friend has a speeding ticket that sayd 135mpf on it and he has done 120mph+ with me in the car...but here is the unbelievable part...its a standard 1.4 vvti with a quoted 97bhp...its unexplainable and really weird how it can go so fast...anyone have any ideas why it would be able to go this quick?

Probably has to do with gearing. That gen Sentra weighs 2467lbs., roughly the same as a Corolla from the same year, so the extra power certainly helps too.
