    Manual requires 5w30

However if not available 10w30 is recommended.

Mechanics advice was using 10w30 is good for older cars, but then again with this engines notorious oil burn issue The advice from forums is to use a thinner oil?

Since mine is an 02 and not an oil burner, I do run thinner cold weight, for improved flow on cold startups. GC 0W30 is almost as viscous as many 40 weight oils once things get up to operating temperature.

To pretty much started at 100k, and my buddies were telling me that when I step on it, it's been smoking pretty bad. Checking the dipstick, this is the first time it's ever been low. Gay. Time to start checking it at every gas fillup.

Just think of it as a performance engine build; it's a light ring setup!!

Try some t6, it's detergent packs apparently the best, or try some PU.

Just added a leftover quart of Mobil 1 High Mileage I had sitting. I don't like how it feels to add oil when it's not an oil change. lol

Every fillup and before every long trip check the oil. Have you looked into the t6?

What's a good weight to use, to help reduce excessive burning? I've read everything from 0w-20 to 10w-30

If your gonna run any good synthetic I would try the 0w30 and go lower, as you wanna the thinnest oil possible. However again, as many have tried this remedy and succeeded, try some rotella t6 5w40, thing is packed with additives that really clean well. If you don't like that then try the thinner oil, preferrably penzol ultra (it cleaning abilities are ridick)

Time is a horrible measurement scale to use when referencing oil consumption. Some people drive 40 miles a week, some people drive 500 miles a week. So 3 quarts in a week and a half is very vague. How much do you drive?
