My exhaust manifold gets like that after a sustained amount of throttle is applied.

Came to this conclusion after gassing the car with 1/4 throttle up a mountain road.

Length of uphill is approximately 3 miles.

In my opinion, these could be the convicts:

    [IMG]Clogged cat converter.

    O2 sensor is acting up.

    Timing is off.

But i just smogged the car this January. So the cat might be out of the possible suspects.

If it was an O2 sensor, the car would be running rich, combusting the excess fuel in the manifold, or somewhere else in the exhaust system. And i would be able to smell it while idling. Would also idle rough.

So would it be my timing?

    Thanks in advance guys.

I don't think this is a problem... obviously, you don't have the heat shield installed. If you pass smog fine, the car isn't extra slow, and you don't have a CEL, then I don't see why it wouldn't get real hot like that!

I think anyone's exhaust would get pretty damn hot with a sustained throttle application up a mountain, jus saying.

If you can't see 4 pipes, then you have the heat shield. The pipes might glow red, but not the heat shield!

Well if you only need 1/4 throttle to get up the mountain, it doesn't sound clogged or bogged to me! Can you get it to glow again?

Yes i can make it glow if i go up tonight for example.
It sometimes downshifts to 3rd to pick up some momentum but quickly shifts back

Haha ok thanks guys! just making sure so i dont blow anything internally.

How did you discover that it was glowing in the first place? Do you always drive up mountains then pop your hood and look at your exhaust?

Ah I see. I wouldn't worry about it. YouTube some dyno runs where the header glows. It's most likely way more extreme than what you see.

But it's still glowing even after you've had time to stop and pop the hood? wow.

Well it wouldn't cool down instantly, and it sounds like he pops it as soon as he can.
