300hp in a corolla is nuts , chassis are shit, my mazdaspeed 3 made 308hp to the wheels and 322ft lb of torque. And it was almost undriveable , went from 19mpg to about 10 on 91 octane , went thru tires like. Butter , and maintenance. Was stupid expensive .......

Yeah, I had to get Z rated tires because I would spin wheels every time I shifted. It was nuts. The owner of one of the speed shops I dealt with said it drove like a stock turbo car though. Smooth and clean.

Should work just fine if he keeps it up on the maintenance. My buddy had a 440+whp KA-T 93 altima. other than the coilovers and stiff clutch, you can drive it all day long no problems. smooth as can be, stupid fast and pegs around 30mpg on the highway. about 19 - 23 in town. its all in how you drive really. a lot of people get addicted to boost and cant keep out of it. my buddy does love boost, but can keep his foot out of it when he wants to or needs to.

Nice. Does your buddy consider the Altima his "project" or does he have something even more "project-y"?

it is a project, but is daily driven quite often. but to be truthful, dave considers all his cars projects. they all have stuff done to them one way or another. mostly during the summer months and he will switch back to his 03 acura tl type s if his leg gets tired of the clutch. but for the most part it is daily driven often.

here you go gold, a couple pics of the altima. and a 9psi dyno graph. this thing is a blast on 26psi!

that dyno is about 3 years old now. the engine is mostly stock, just cp forged 9:1 pistons, cryotreated stock rods, arp studs and a cometic head gasket. it was built by david and myself. tuning is all done by me. daughterboarded stock ecu retuned for everything. the stock ecu even has launch control now, lol well more like a anti lag launch control..

    Niiiice!

I think we were talking about having two cars, one a real project (like that Altima) and the other a Corolla turbo DD, like a turbo Corolla is nothing lol.

a turbo corolla would be a great dd in my opinion. just keep the boost low and a nice conservative tune and your set. after that its just routine maintenance. i have plenty of friends that daily their turbo cars. if tuned right you can get better mpg on the highway and decent around town. any kind of forced induction makes more torque. not hp, hp is a byproduct of torque. so a properly sized turbo for mid range or even mid-top end will make drivability better. i dont like to size turbos just for the low end, cus most will want to turn the boost up and then the turbo will blow hot. nothing that cant be tuned around, but still not worth the risk IMO.

I have realized that I have been meaning "beater" and not "DD". I use the two interchangeably, but I see I'm the only one here who does lol. Oops.

A turbo Corolla would make an AWESOME DD, but definitely not a beater lol.

i dont know about that. the altima has been beat on pretty damn hard and making over 100hp per cylinder... on a mostly stock engine. AND he is upsizing the turbo right now from a t3/t4 50 trim to either a t3/t4 57 trim turbonetics or a holset hx35. either way, the power is about to increase.

its all in the tune really. i have seen plenty of people here locally that spend thousands of dollars building an incredible engine, just to have it all turn to shit cus they cheaped out on the tuning. Dave is the perfect example of what proper tuning can do for reliability. 75k miles since the build was done, hundreds of street races, hours spent in boost, i cant tell you how many miles this thing has made in just 1/4 mile passes. it has been rock solid. the only issue he has had, is right now its down due to timing chain guides making noise. there supposed to be changed at 100k or so. no biggie. its normal maintenance. he pushes this car HARD and it takes it and asks for more when he is done. its all in the tuning, trust me on this. i have seen people build raggedy ass piles of shit, but had them tuned properly and have lasted 100 times longer than anyone would have thought.

I think gold and milky have a different view on the word beater. Gold has finally explained that to him, a DD (apparently also a beater) is just your little piece of crap to roll around in while all your funds to into a "real" project car. Milky sees it as a car to beat on daily. Lol

^^^^ yeah that's where we were coming from, and that's what I thought hummer meant, but I see the other side now.

I was thinking that you'd have your Garage Queen project/weekend car, and then you DD which would be your cheap beater that you don't put any money or work into. If you're busy turboing the DD, then you can't drive it while it's being worked on. So in essence, the turbo couldn't be a DD until it was finished, and you'd need another DD/beater in the meantime. That's what I meant way back at the beginning.
