    Should I go Turbocharge? Supercharge? or do basic suspension modification ?

    Hi everyone, a little new to to this website. I'm also on Toyotanation.com. I may have asked this question but I'm still curious. I still want more results and opinions LOL.

    Budget is $3000.

    I own a 1998 corolla le with an 1zzfe that makes 120 hp /122 tq.

    First:

    I was wondering if I can put a 4age Blacktop 20v into this car. Since my car is an auto (A245E), I was planning to keep transmission and use a Transgo shift kit. But here is the problem, I live in Georgia, Douglasville and there are emission testing sites all over the place. Is there any chance of passing ? The emissions guys don't know either.

    I know they stopped making this engine in 1998.
    I know the blacktop is obd 1 my car is obd 2
    I don't know if there's a vvti version.
    I know that there's a possibility of failing a visual test.

    2.What kind of Supercharger can run with the first gen 1zzfe besides the trd supercharger? Will an M90 supercharger, kill the 1zzfe if I run it 6 psi stock ? Will it do the same with an sc14 supercharger ? Its seems to work well with the Spyder.

    3. If I was going turbo, I would go custom. What are the best turbochargers to run with the first gen 1zzfe ?

    Oooo emissions are a killer! But I thought Georgia didn't have emissions? Maybe not for the entire state.

    For $3000, you should be able to s/c or turbo it, barely. I've seen a couple of TRD superchargers sell on TN recently, but of course it's too late to get that.

    I personally would spend $1000 of that and get coilovers! Also do other suspension upgrades. That's where it's at IMO.

    Talk to irvin if you decide to S/C, id say go for a 20v, its been done before but I dont know how... and like gold said, the 1k, put it towards coilovers.

    Few things. If the emissions guys you're going to don't know if a motor swap will fail or pass emissions/visual/registration, go somewhere else. Second, if emissions testing is an issue, a custom turbo kit most likely will not pass, but you live in Georgia, so I would look up the rules of your state before doing anything major to your car. Third, if suspension is another one of your choices to blow 30 stacks on, that is plenty more than just "basic suspension mods"... You can do a complete overhaul of every aspect of the suspension, and most likely have plenty of $$$ for gas left over. I spent about 30 bucks to lower my car, so I think that qualifies as basic. If you want suspension work, you can get custom spring rated full coilovers, new end links, sway bars, strut braces, camber plates, custom LCAs, a bump steer kit to help since you destroy the optimum suspension geometry when you lower it, there's a lot you can do. There's a company called Ultra Racing, you can also get every bar, brace, and bolt on piece they make for the 98-02 corollas, which is a lot.

    None of the emission sites in Douglasville, GA, knows if the blacktop 4age 20v will pass.

    lol is that trd supercharger in the for sale section? I've been looking there, ebay, cragslists, and this site, and people brought everything in those places. Some of those posts from 2007-2010. If I cannot get the trd supercharger, I wonder if I can use an m90 supercharger from a Thunderbird or an sc14 supercharger from a Ford Holden. I would be satisfy with just 180-197 hp. I'm definitely going to do some up grades in the suspension.

    Man I wish, whats killing me....... is that the 20v is obd 1 and Douglasville has emissions where nobody knows if this engine will pass. I've done tons of research on this engine. I don't even know if it's possible to get this obd1 motor to work an a obd2 car instead going from od2 to ob1. I saw irvin's video. He has an trd superchanger from a 9th gen Corolla. Odd, it pulls harder in the 8th gen than the 9th gen.

    The odd part about those emissions guys, they said I could turbo my car as long as I don't do anything to the cat converter. Suspension upgrade is on my minded. I just wish I could at lease get 180-197 hp out of the car, F/I or N/A.

    Yes, you are right, making a mistake would be a great loss. I'll keep on researching and asking around town. LOL I can't believe Toyota, The corolla power train is limited.

    About the turbo, Are all turbochargers universal? Could I use a T25 turbo from an Eclipse or a Nissan ?

    Lol this is the last thing on my mind. I think I'm to go with it. Transmission is going to be a pain knowing that my car is an auto. and an auto a without a shift kit sucks.

    lol it's best to go 2zz until Toyota decides to give the Corolla some power. There's no point in having a lot of headaches. With the auto :(. Do you think it'll make a difference if I go with the Level 10 auto transmission setup with the ECU set to 5000 rpm in lift?
