Engine TRD SUPERCHARGER X100

    For the millionth time. Has anyone ever got close to installing this or even trying to in an 8th gen?

    Ok so I figure I'd try to do a quick recap on what needs to be done to get the TRD supercharger to work in an 8th gen.

    First of all. It is not hard at all. You can follow the factory Supercharger installation guide. Here

    The few special differences are:

    1). Supra radiator 1992. I used a non turbo but I think a turbo version will net you a thicker radiator. The non turbo version is already an upgrade. As the Stock 8th gen radiator core is only 5/8 thick and the NA supra radiator is 1 inch.

    2). Radiator hose. I used a combination of a 9th gen corolla upper radiator hose and then used another hose I got from O'reily. The second hose I eyeballed to what angles I needed. I then joined the two hoses with a "Radiator hose repair kit" for about 3 bucks.

    3). TRD Ecu wiring: The TRD ecu can get wired directly to the stock harness. Here's a quick wiring diagram of the TRD ECU. As far as wiring the 2 wire knock sensor. I simply tapped a hole next to the bellhousing side of the engine and installed a second knock sensor there. Not sure yet if this is actually working but will get to it eventually lol.

    4). Hood clearance: There's no way around this. If you want a supercharger on your 8th gen corolla. You need either a scoop or run a big hole in your hood with a supercharger sticking out lol. I used a Mustang GT hood scoop. The supercharger sticks out about 1 inch higher than the hood Plus another half inch play for engine bounce from shifting.

    NOTICE*** The 8th gen ECU with the TRD supercharger does ping a tiny bit under low RPM and heavy load. What I mean is if you are in a higher gear (low rpm) and try to accelerate, it will ping. Under normal acceleration it doesn't. For example if you start from 1-2-3-4-5. This is either due to too much timing advance from the 8th gen ecu or a lack of fuel under heavy load in higher gear.

    The pinging goes away completely when I used 100 octane. So my recommendation. If you want to use the 8th gen ecu and retain your normal operation of cooling fans etc. Get a meth/water injection kit. They are about $300 and are easy to use and boost your octane level to 110 octane and cools the supercharger by at least 50 degrees.

    This is LAME. They tested it on an engine with a TBI cleaner over throttle body setup. Those are never sealed and will leak any kind of pressure. Not saying I was expecting any amazing results. Just saying that they didn't test it the best way possible.

    There was a thread a while back about a successful one, you may need to do a search I think the only problem was the hood.

    MYTH 1- Supercharger Sticks out too far...
    Semi False. THe supercharger is actually a bit shorter if not the same than the original
    manifold. Only problem being is the upper radiator hose only has about 2 inches
    to make the bend. The supercharger will be right in front of the outlet. But with an
    aftermarket 90 degree bend you can clear it.

    MYTH 2 - Supercharger won't clear the hood by 4+ inches...
    Again Semi FALSE- Cutting out a small part of the center under webbing of the hood will practically break even hood clearance.

    Yup. Got everything for the Supercharger kit. I just need to get a wideband and rewire the TRD ecu to see if it'll work with the 8th gen ecu. The only issue I'm seeing is the TRD Ecu is looking for the 2 wire flat style Knock sensor signal where as ours use the old fashion 1 wire. I'm planning on adding the second knock sensor in the block.

    I will for sure. It'll take me a few weeks but I'll share my results. I KNOW that the kit will work with the 8th Gen.
    The MAJOR part of my research will see how the Stock ecu handles the supercharger and TRD ecu

    All of these pictures and measurements are nice, but as the title states, you are wondering about a TRD supercharger... why does the one in your pictures say GM performance parts?

    Stock 8th gen dynos are around 110 whp. Stock supercharged Corolla's dyno around 155-165. That's roughly
    45-55 whp gain. TRD supercharger kits can be bough ten now for under $1,500. I just bought mine for $600.
    So. If anyone still comes up with the argument NOW that the TRD kit is too expensive for it's gains are cheap.

    Irvin, awesome!!! I am in Menlo and I have the same supercharger. I also took those measurements and came to the same conclusion. You are much further along than I am with your research on using the TRD ECU in conjunction with the stock 8.5 gen ECU/EFI sensors. I am still torn between trying to run the TRD ECU and 5th injector vs. 2ZZ injectors and a standalone that can actually control vvt-i. I figure I'll cross that bridge when I get to it, working on a 1JZ project right now.

    I would love to check out your project some time and if you need a second pair of hands I am down!

    It really depends on how much you want to spend on the project. A Celica 1zz PFC with 2zz injectors would be the way to go. You can get used 1zz PFC for about 500-600. I may end up going that route eventually. But for now, I'd like to do a stock setup to see how it works. MAINLY for research purposes for all of you here on the thread.

    Not too crazy. The TRD supercharger runs on a pressure ratio of 1.5 and a similarly sized turbo for the 1zz with good spool characteristics could give you 21 psi almost off the line.

    I already have the 2ZZ injectors, emanage blue (although one of these fried in my supra recently, not feeling warm and fuzzy about it lately), full TRD ECU/wiring harness as well. I'm just waiting to snipe on a good AEMV2 or 1ZZ PFC. This is also my back-burner project so there is almost no progress.

    Cool, much closer than Modesto. Are you an auto (Toyota?) tech? I'm an electronics engineer, so I can definitely help out with wiring, just need access to the ZZE110 and ZZE130 TEWDs. I'm also pretty good at speccing stock toyota connectors so we can probably do it plug and play style too.

    On this engine with the TRD blower it's no more plumbing than a standard turbo setup.

    I did graduate the Toyota training program and many years of experience in the field.
    My electrical background is also very good. No engineer but pretty decent lol.
    That's awesome news that you're an electrical engineer!

    I do have the Factory wiring diagram manual. There are two ways I can see this wiring up with a factory ecu.
    A. Wire it up like I previously stated with an 8.5 ecu.
    or
    B. Use an 03 ecu but having issues with wiring the A/C and Radiator fan systems. 03 ecu's do all the work while
    8.5 ecu's use an A/C amplifier in between the ECU and systems

    I could do the work with the turbos and superchargers but I would get lost with the electrical.
