    DIY: Front mesh grill

A lot of people have done this mode to their 01-02 rolla already. What they did were cut out the OEM grill and put a chicken wire mesh between the sliver frame and the grill and it looks pretty good.

When I did mine, I thought it would looks way better if I could put the mesh behind the OEM grill. So I went extra mile and did this. I didn't take pic for the whole process, but I think it's good enough to give you a good idea how I did it. :)

(No image) First I cut out the OEM grill.

Then I filled the spot with bondo and fiber glass at the back.

I also filled the big hole at the top part where the Toyota emblem (T) in.

(no images) Then I wet sand the whole thing before I apply primer and paint.

I didn't want to use chicken wire coz I think it looks so rice. So I went to Homedepot and get the light mesh thingy in the lighting department. It only came in silver or white, so I had to paint it black.

Then I zip-tied it behind the grill after the paint dried. Done!

    Extra:

I also did the mesh in the fog light area.

If you notice, I painted the inner area with black.

Very nicely done. The mesh design makes it look almost an OEM option - great choice.

I think your car looks cleaner with the full grill you have already. It compliments your front lip.

rollatuner, do you really like the 99 lip better than the 01 on a 01 front end?
I like it too but i dont like the gap and bump it leaves at the edge of the bumper and under the fog lights, thats why i want the 01 lip and the fact that my friend has a 99 front end.

Yes. It actually matches the car quite well. The 01-02 lip is fugly. It's pretty much just a block of plastic will no aerodynamics to it. As for the gap, there's nothing a little bondo and paint can't fix. ;) I would actually do the 01-02 conversion and use my lip(the same as yours) on it if I weren't planning to sell the car eventually. This is the cleanest looking setup I have seen besides fitting the 98-00 TRD front valences on the 01-02, but good luck getting those pieces. Actually, there's some in silver right here for sale. http://trdforums.com/forum/showpost.php?p=539312&postcount=32
