Pros and Cons? Mostly looking for any cons on that particular model. It has 129k miles, and I can probably get it for 4 thousand.

    must be

yeah, i agree. there have to be at least 6 of them that work in the shop(out of 20 some mechanics). but I do need something a little better in the winter, and its cheap enough where I don't have to take out a loan.

edit: I also need something to replace my corolla with 180k miles almost.

edit 2: its either the subaru or the mr2s. and I don't want the mr2 because its just as slow as my corolla. and wouldn't have the money to mod it right away.

Everyone and their grandmas have a Subaru in Oregon. They all sit like cholos with their hat rocked to the side and giant aviators trying to race anything with rims on it. Subarus are the farthest thing from being unique.

If you need this vehicle for the snow, I do not see why you are considering an MR2. Seems like a giant step backwards from a Corolla in terms of practicality, and a big mistake when you've found a decent WRX for 4 grand.

If that's what you are going for, definately take the wrx then. AWD around here is just pro.

I'd be jealous if it was an Audi, not a low class Subaru. wrxs are the new civics, have fun with people calling you a douche.

What about taking the sale money from the Corolla and combine it with what you have saved up to get an STi? You could probably find one for relatively cheap.

I have mostly converted back to stock, but still couldn't sell it. I am getting 40mpg combined right now, which will only be beaten by a fiat 500 which wont be available in this state till august. I've only got ~7k saved up right now. Was hoping to not spend it all either, and don't want to be shelling out payments.

you do realize that a Subaru is just a cheaper Audi? Not to mention Subaru hasn't been bastardized and watered down by Volkswagen. STi's are way faster, and better performing around the track than an S4. The suspension mods on the STI are way ridiculously compared to the S4. Audi's are for cocks and tossers.

Anyway, that WRX is going to whole sale. Rotors are warped, clutch is going out, and the AC doesn't work. And the MR2 has a bad motor mount, it isn't too bad but its noticeable at idle. Both are going to wholesale/dealer auction later this week.

Of course, I could just buy the merc slr we have....but I don't have 900 a month to be spending on payments.

If your getting it for winter use because its AWD then go for it, but if your getting it because you wanna look cool *cough*douche*cough* then you have whats coming to you, audi quattro wheel drive would tear the panties of your subaru.

I'm only stating anyways here in oregon everyone buys a WRX/STI and think thyre the shit. Every time i see the driver its the same typical looking douche bag. I wish i had a video of the guy in a WRX getting schooled by my friends civic.

Audis are severely over-engineered. They contain too many moving parts for their own good. For enthusiasts, they are works of art. For some auto mechanics, they are a nuisance to maintain. For the owners, they are costly to keep running. I do not know much about Subarus, but it seems like they follow a minimalist engineering method similar to other mass produced Japanese makes like Toyota and Honda. Falnfenix, is this a fair assessment?

But regardless, why should he care about what other people think?

Agreed, though why would he ask a toyota forum about subarus? Most of the people in here have never even sat in one.

Your point is well taken. Yes, this happens to be a Toyota-themed performance message board. However, MovieSTAR has invested time in this forum. He joined February 11, 2007. He has nearly 4,000 posts since that day. He knows people on this message board and just wanted some input from a trusted source, the good old TRD Forums.

But ultimately, none of this even matters. The fact is all automotive message boards are comprised of automotive enthusiasts. They may specialize in a particular make, model, generation, era, performance aspect, racing aspect, or some other common interest, but at the end of the day, they are all "car guys". And I guess some "car girls". To say "this is a Toyota message board, leave your WRX questions to Subaru message boards" is completely reasonable to say, but he might be posting the same message in a Subaru message board like NASIOC and just came here to get some input.

Suggesting to MovieSTAR "try posting this in a Subaru-themed message board" is more productive, but he probably did not respond to your first post because you keep calling Subaru owners "douche bags". The reason I know this is because I used to post arrogant things on the internet, this board in particular, all the time. Look up the posts for GimmickDotCom and Wide Slip Angle for this forum if you don't believe me. Once you start being nice to people, they're not going to care what you used to say. At least the important people won't.

And really, this topic is good for TRD Forums because, from what I have read, the interest in this message board has been dwindling.

This is starting to sound too much like a Disney movie so I'll de-rail it for a little bit...

A note on "car girls": Most girls I've met are content with sitting in the passenger seat and looking pretty. The badass girls are those that get their hands dirty. I realize this a gross generalizaton. The typical female response is "well, you clearly haven't met enough girls!" but that's a battle of the sexes topic for another time.

Sorry for hijacking your thread, MovieSTAR. I just realized your gender is not listed, so you might be female, but it's none of our business anyway, so I'll shut up now.

    EDIT June 10, 2011 at 1:43pm:
I just realized this was posted in general discussion. If you hover your mouse over the words "General Discussion" on TRD Forum's homepage, it says "Discuss anything related to vehicles." That would be why he posted it here.

forget about the subaru being the next civic. it's mainly people that could never afford an sti or the insurance that say it any way. subaru's are bullet proof cars, but the downside is that you don't know if it has been beat up by a younger driver. interior is lack luster, but probably better then the corolla you have. get the vin number and check the history of at the dealer. it will give you an idea of the history and have it professional looked at if you plan to drive it in the winter. you don't want to break down in the middle of winter.

audi/vw make great vehicles, but they are expensive to maintain unless you have a good shop so you don't have to go to the dealer. i guess it helps keep the cheap people from buying them.

I'm sure Audi and VW intentionally over-engineer their vehicles so that cheap people cannot buy them.

wow, i never knew I was a douche. haha.

if you buy an 02 WRX check to see if the head gasket is leaking. otherwise, check for your usual stuff (leaks, brakes, suspension, body damage, rust, etc) and you should be good.

    otherwise,

Con: bad gas mileage, doing some basic maintenence is a bitch. just changing to spark plugs is a headache because of the extra steps.

Pro: much more fun to drive than a corolla.

well, ive owned two E110, one E92, and driven E101, E72, E130, E140 which is almost half of all corollas and yes. I can say a Subaru AWD is much more fun to drive. Even the E95 (All-trac) is less fun unfortunately.

AWD is the lazy man's way to learn how to race. Throw it into a corner at speeds beyond comprehension and it's AWD to the rescue!

Real men learn how to dance a relatively underpowered FWD car using a gas pedal and a brake pedal. With a little E-brake thrown in for fun.

Realer men have a clutch pedal in their car (not me).

Sounds like a typical WRX condition from someone who doesn't know how to take care of cars. If you want a WRX in good condition, go on to the subie forums. They are always selling stuff there and most are usually in decent condition. At least they are the "douches" that take care of their cars.

Don't stress it, alot of people don't know their douche bags until some one points it out. Colin farrell didn't know he was one either, not until family guy pointed it out anyways.
