    is this crack bad?

the crack is located on the metal casing that surrounds the shock absorber, not sure if its dangerous or not. probably caused because that shock is blown.

Isn't that just the dust boot? FYI, they're made out of rubber. Bad but not really dangerous.

oh okay, could have sworn it was metal =S was having a look at some cars at another used car dealership, and there were a couple cars which had similar cracks.

I'd worry more about the blown shock than the boot protecting it. And all crack is bad to answer the question of the thread. :D

Yeah i couldn't tell if it was plastic or not either but if it's plastic then it doesn't matter as much but as rollatuner says, all cracks are bad.. Try and get new struts soon, as well as new boots

Yep, it's rubber. I have no idea how you ripped all the rubber dust boots when you were replacing your struts. Unless u mean it was all ripped up already..

my stock ones looked a lot worst.. they were shreaded into pieces. They just keep dirt and other crap off the strut rod so that it doesn't damage the oil seal when the struts compresses. You'd need to take off the top mount to change em, way too much hassle IMO.

Also if you think about it, some of the cheapass coilovers out there dont even have dust boots.. *cough* ksport

When i was spraying my wheel i had to take it off. I saw it, didnt touch it or anything, but it looked metal just like the spring so i just assumed it was. I apologize if i hurt anyones feelings.
Thanks for your help though guys, I appreciate it.
