    Healthcare Reform

What are your thoughts? I hear more people saying they didn't want it versus people loving the idea. One thing I don't like is that if we don't have insurance than we will be fined. There was a time when I was 18-22ish I went with out because I never got sick and if I got hurt I paid the bill.

the system needed reform, but this wasn't the way to do it. they should have gone after the insurance and drug companies to control costs, rather than making it another case of hand holding.

have some questions that no one else can answer. maybe this information is out there, but everything i look up doesn't have it. would have been nice if they released this information prior to shoving this down everyone's throat. on the bright side, if you're young you can claim you don't want insurance for religious reasons. that's the only way out of it.

    - is there a deductible? if so, what are they?
    - copays for office visits, er visits, medications? or is it all inclusive?
    - i have coverage through my work that costs far less than the 10%, so what will anything happen to my taxes and or coverage through my work? don't need them to start charging the employees more for insurance.
    - what are the differences between the 4 levels? (platinum, gold, silver and bronze)
    - does covering pre-existing conditions count towards my insurance at my current job or is that only through the government plan?

You all have to realize that there are 320ish million people in the United States- this healthcare reform will provide insurance to about 35 million people that are not currently covered. Thats an increase of only 10%.

For the other 90% (well, more specifically, for the other percentage that currently have insurance)...nothing is really changing unless you are the wealthy. You can keep your current plan.

And the cost of the bill, spread out over the next 10 years, will be covered by charging more for Medicaid to the rich (those who make 250k or more a year), new taxes on expensive health care providers (doesnt start until 2018 and is called the "Cadillac" tax), and increased/extra fees on the insurers themselves. (its about time!), and Medicare Cuts. (and no use in blaming Obama for this one- McCain and Clinton were planning on cutting MORE in Medicare over the 10 years if they had gotten into office)

Under the reform youll stay on your parents insurance until age 26 unless you get on your own insurance.

You already ARE paying illegals- who do you think pays for the illegals healthcare when they go to the hospital for help? They arent turned away.....that burden already falls on the taxpayers.
And even under the plan, illegals will NOT be allowed to buy insurance from the exchange. PERIOD.

Its all been released. And youll have 4 years to research it cuz thats when it goes into effect. 2014! And the FULL penalties dont kick in until 2016, which will be a TAX fine of 695 bucks. They wont send you a bill for 695- it will be deducted at tax time. And low income will be exempt.

Federal subsidies will help those pay that cant pay it. (estimated at 20 million people total). The amount you end up paying will be determined by a sliding scale- and youll be able to shop around (aka- "exchanges") for a plan that fits you and your situation. And for the really poor people, the Medicaid system is going to be expanded so you can apply for Medicaid.

    True.

Its going to be set up just like majority of insurance companies are now- you will be able to shop around and have a choice- (NOTE: this is if you are unhappy with your current insurance or dont have insurance currently- otherwise you can stay with your current insurance company and nothing will change)

Youll be able to shop around for alternate insurance- but your employer will have to match the prices from outside of the exchanges.

From what I understand, this was the Bacus Proposal, and Im not sure if it was put into the reform that was passed. Either way, the proposal was basically 4 levels that could be comparable to car insurance policies- the bottom level covers the bare minimums, and the top level covers everything. (With all levels required to cover a certain list of services- the following:
    · preventive and primary care services,
    · emergency services,
    · medical and surgical care,
    · physician services,
    · hospitalization,
    · outpatient services,
    · day surgery and related anesthesia,
    · diagnostic imaging and screenings (including x-rays),
    · maternity and newborn care,
    · pediatric services (including dental and vision care),
    · prescription drugs,
    · radiation and chemotherapy, and
    · mental health and substance abuse services.

It doesnt matter- across the board. For children it goes into effect immediately. For adults with pre-existing conditions, it goes into effect in 2014.

There is a college aid aspect that was passed with the bill as well. Pretty beneficial for those entering college or planning to in the future sometime.

Theres still a shit load to it, but those are the basics...the conspiracy theorists still claim this is a backdoor bailout, and that the middle class will be paying out the ass for this in increased taxes, higher premiums because the insurance companies are taking a hit, etc etc etc.

The pessimist comes out in too many people when it comes to politics. They grab on to the unknown factors and stretched assumptions and wont let go no matter what.

Time will tell. In about 6-9 years on whether or not this will work.

Australia's healthcare system is ze best =] implementation early on ensures eventual success. this was success from the get go however. MY POINT OF VIEW is that america will be spastic for the next 5 years until its shit gets sorted out, either that or it will be terrible. i think this will alter elections massively in the next 10 year. anyway, after my rant i must say i agree with some of the statements said on trd forums, that it is falling into disrepair, and that all people talk about is mostly life in general.. LETS GET BACK TO TRD and TOYOTA shiz!

while you posted a lot information, it's still pretty vague. there should of been more details released to the public so we could have an educated opinion. instead, it was kept quiet and behind doors and then just voted on leaving everyone else out. paying 10% is a lot of money when not knowing deductibles, copays, etc. another question is if this will be more along the lines of hmo or ppo. im still extremely bothered by the fact the government is forcing us to have insurance. i really don't need insurance, but i have it because i only need to pay $25 a check for medical, dental and vision. i like ron paul's view about making healthcare

Riiiiiight. You dont need insurance until you NEED it. I see comments like that as an easy out for someone to disagree with all of this.
People that have money and can live live comfortably complain about having to pay for those that are taking advantage and riding the system.

You already have insurance so why are you upset that they are forcing OTHERS to have insurance. And what does it matter what kinds of insurance it is....your insurance will remain the same.

And if you want details, go read the bill itself. Put some time aside since it very long, but its all right there in black and white, and has been for MONTHS. How do you think all of the opposition is able to oppose it the last few months....by guessing?

*knocks on wood* i've never been hospitalized, had a broken bone, had or needed a major surgery or had to visit the er in the last 10 years. if i get sick, i deal with it. i am upset about them forcing people to have it because not everyone needs it. if i was to leave and go to a different company and it just so happened that they didn't offer medical or it cost it a lot then i wouldn't go seeking it. i am very good at controlling my environment to limit the amount of contact i have with others who are sick. i know i do need dental and vision, so that is something i would have to get. i just don't need the government telling i have to have it. it seems like the government is forcing to people to have it as a way for the insurance companies to recoup the costs of not being able to turn down pre-existing conditions. i am not against the health care reform, i just against forcing people to have it. i think they need to have discounted rates for people that are healthy and not over weight.

i'm prefectly fine with the health care reform. I still think our "cost of living" in general is cheaper than most other countries.
