    Car shudders at idle

Hey guys, I noticed about a week or two ago that when ever I stop at a red light and my car is idling it starts to shudder, not aggressively or violent, but very quiet and barely noticeable, almost like its gonna die or something, it happens every so 15-30 seconds. Also noticed exhaust pops, Car drives fine, maybe a little loss of power? But not too noticeable. I was thinking it could possibly be dirty oxygen sensor, exhaust leak, fuel injector?

does it only do it when u first start it and start to drive cuz mine does that revs drop to low and seems like its gonna stall out. idk about the engine popping though that might be something else is ur CEL on if not i would maybe go get it scanned.

Check all your lines to the brake booster and the brake booster itself. Also check the diaphragm. Proceed to check all the rest of your vacuum lines following the schematic taped under the hood. I remember diagnosing this same problem when I was working for a mechanic shop.

Question from a relative car noob. How does anything involving the brakes affect how the car idles?

The brake booster uses a vacuum to assist in braking which is supplied by the motor. To simplify things, if you don't have the proper vacuum going to the brake booster, the engine won't run properly either. It will stutter and run unevenly when the brake booster is engaged(at a stop).

Im pretty sure the car does it in park too, even after the car is warmed up, I know because when I was pulled over the other night I was in park and me and the officer both heard the back fire lol.

Ok now I feel dumb lol. This whole time I was picturing it while you were warming up the car, which is why I was confused about why your brakes would be an issue here. But yes, when you're like at a red light, you're using your brakes and the car is idling. I get it now. facepalm.

It sounds like dirty plugs here as well. Check everything that has to do with ignition.
