    Haiti relief, a waste.

I just had to get this out of my system, I think its bull shit that were spending millions possibly billions of our dollars to help people in third world shit holes. We can some how find a way to send all this money to countries that cant support them selves after god knows how many years they've had to progress to a stage of proper governing and law, yet we cant afford to find people jobs and get homeless Americans of the streets. When ever some natural disaster occurs its always the US with the "please help" commercials and website donations. Haiti has been poverty stricken, unsafe, and quite literally a land fill for years, if anyone is to take responsibility its them selves. You somehow feel that if you send over a couple dollars it will make you feel better about your self, or just make you a better person? Dandy, that's just FINE, but there should be at least a god dam limit to how much can be sent over. Some of you are probably thinking, "What if it was you in their place?" Well if it was me and I was living in a house made of cardboard and I lost "everything," I would consider myself lucky to be alive, however I'd still be in the same shit hole, and nothing anyone does can change that. We didn't help before why help now? Whose gonna help the US when this kinda shit happens to us? I'm just tired of us wiping everyone's ass.

Anyways, that's my rant and sorry if I offended anyone, that's just how I feel. Anyone else got opinions?

I think it's a lil bit more complicated than this...

sometimes corporations use this type of situation to donate money since it's cheaper in the long run than to pay actual taxes... (deductibles are they called?)

so they hop in the bandwagon...

and... Haiti has been a slump because of themselves long before that...
and keep having 7 kids per family... * Africa anyone?*
They blame *cheap* american imports for their loses in income (the farmers)

For me, this is the most important part. We need to take care of ourselves at home before we take care of other issues abroad...
and what is with us donating 100 million and China only 1 million. I understand that they recognize Taiwan or whatever, but come on! Why does the US always have to give the most? And we all know where is this money going to come from...

The US always has the sense of urgency to help nations in need of disaster relief after all we are the democratic ambassadors of the world, so of course were going to throw our money and other resources at Haiti. But i agree that the US is kind of suckers in this situation, we are the glorified waste management service for the world.

i was listening to a radio show yesterday and they found out that haiti has received $1 billion over the last 3 years from the US government via the site usaid.gov. the government needs to stay out of helping others when we owe china trillions and we don't have the money. the US government said they would be spending 100 million, but where is that money coming from? just going to print more off to make the dolllar weaker? if a citizen wants to donate, let them do as they feel just leave the government out of it.

I agree with the motion. It's complete bullshit. Use that money to stimulate the economy and save the homes of Americans that are being foreclosed from job loss.

I just recently got my bachelor's but that's useless in this shit hole of an economy. I'm just sitting here twiddling my thumbs and waiting.

Exactly, however their location puts them within the North American Continent that's still no excuse to get them out of their own shit hole. I'm not saying its bad if individual citizens or even corporations want to send over a couple dollars in relief, especially with the tax deductions as you mentioned, but the government should not be allowed to send any money, or at least have a minimal allowed donation. In the end think, "what has Haiti done for us?" Next thing you know we'll be funding another civil war relief in Africa.

    OBAMA, helping his people.

I completely agree with your rant and feel the same way.

How can we take care of another country, when we can't take care of our own country.

I kinda disagree. ha! actually i'd rather cut the cost of all the money that is going to the war. Last i heard (and i just remember very vaguely,) they spend a billion dollars every few month. i'd rather see that money spent on our economy and stuff.

Yes, I swear. First fighting off communism, terrorism, and now relief to countries while domestic affairs are all in a mess.

Sorry bro but when people donate, they don't necessarily ask, gee, what has this person/organization/etc done for me?

People donate maybe because of life experiences and sympathize for whatever reason. For example, when people donate to a cancer organization, do you think people ask, hmm what has this cancer organization done for me?

It's not just the US and it's not just our government. Individuals are donating, too. So what are you going to tell those people? Are you going to tell them how to donate their money away?

What a terrible way to look at anything.

Individuals may do whatever they like. However, the government has no excuse. Domestic matters should take priority over Haiti.

Sigh, how quickly people forget when other nations donated during 9/11 - even ones that could barely afford it.

Do we know if those donations were government-oriented, or donated by the people of those nations?

Sorry, I thought the antecedent was clear - governments of other nations.
