    Because its a false statement.
Sure, certain generations of certain makes had electrical gremlins. Certain years of certain makes have mechanical problems.

I can say the same thing about any make and model out there really. To make a blanket statement that all VWs are junk is laughable.

Funny you should mention the Cobalt. My friend had to rent one due to his car being in the shop and we'd both have to say it's the biggest piece of crap. 24/41 estimated mileage doesn't even come close. We measured 10/15. Sad sad sad. And the car only has 900 miles on it. Is it just me or do American car companies unrealistically jack up the estimated mpg for their cars. I've rented a PT Cruiser in the past as well with just as bad mileage as the Cobalt. Mind you driving speed limit with no excessive acceleration. And both the base Cobalt and PT are horribly underpowered and slow. It actually makes me wonder if the blown versions of both really are quick as people claim them to be. I can only imagine the mileage those get... *shudder*

I had a cobalt rental when my dad's ford focus was in for warranty work.. it blows less than the focus but still blows! gas milage sucks too.

lol, I don't want to start anything so i'm not going to say any more on the matter. It's just my personal opinion/perference.

It can't be coincidence that we both agree that the Cobalt is a piece of crap and that it doesn't have gas mileage. :p

As for Chevy's mpg claims for it, I quote from Tropic Thunder: I don't know what it's called; I only know the sound it makes when it *lies*!

Waste of money. Save that money, sell the Corolla, and buy a real car. Lots of other used car options out there.

i always notice the hate on VW's comes from people that have typically never owned one. 9 times out of 10 it's "i have" a friend" or "my friend said this" or "my family member said this" or "my neighbor down the street". vw service is expensive if you go to the dealer, but that's that same with any brand. vw's also run synthetic oil from the dealer lot. the same with every car, if you don't maintain it then it will give you problems.

All this talk about VWs (and the new Audi A3 commercials) have gotten me re-interested in getting a diesel. I've always wanted a diesel and now they are getting better performance with great gas mileage. I would love a BMW 335d, but that's way too expensive.

I also believe that any car will last you as long as you maintain it. Some cars may have an electrical problem or two, but if you maintain the engine it should last a long time.

You haven't experienced electrical problems until you buy British.

We own a vw jetta like i said, and my parents love it, i still live with them cause im still young lol.. But it's a super car that get's 900km's to a tank and they go and go and go. Diesel's are really the way to go, you can push them harder to.

I know from experience. My dad's side of the family has owned BMW's and Benz's and they would be mechanically fine but electrical would mess up somewhere.
