VW's are infamous for repairs. High mileage ones are even more skeptical.

LOL 2000. Realistically, modded cars sell for less, high mileage knocks it down even further, and it's a 2001. 4000 is more realistic.

the car has been around for approximately 8 years so 126,000 is about 15,700 on average. that is right on par with what the average car would have.

One thing my father told me when we were looking for cars was when he was in the car business he says dont ever buy a vw with over 60k ur gonna have nothing but problems with it thats y most are traded in at around 60k because there gonna have problems later, mostly electric some machanical. on its a grantee u will, i dont see how a 01 kbb is 6300 my friend has a 06 beetle with like 28000 on it and its worth 7k and an 01 golf with like 85k its worth 4.5k. also mods like that mean he beats on it cuz i know i would if had them

Just keep in mind that German car parts are very expensive. I had a VW once and my mom has always had German cars (She has a Mini right now). They are nice, but the parts are expensive and some are hard to work on. I think the GTI isn't that hard to work on, but my mom's Mini is a pain

Hi there, My family still has a 01 vw jetta. It's of course a TDI. Honestly i wouldnt buy a VW car unless it's dieseled. Our car has 250,000km On it. If the guy hasnt changed the timing belt on it, (if you are going to buy it put one in right away or its going to cost you around 2200 to fix it cause it will break and f your motor up. Thats way to high for a gas VW motor, Diesel motors are even more to work on but way worth it.

For mileage comparison, my 2003 has 119k miles on it. So mileage for an 01 really isn't bad.

Ok look at it this way. German Engineering.... But its still a Gas motor, Just like any motor... Diesel motors, if you maintain them properly will go for 500,000 miles+... Huge difference from a gas motor.

yeah i know with a diesel motor 500,000 is really nothing i know guys that work on one with 1000000 plus on them

now i dont drive to much i mean work is six miles away and thats all i really drive so i know i wouldnt add to much to the miles i mean my corolla i have had for two and a half years i put 16000 on it so thats not bad

so i should start at 4000 and work my way up what do you guys think the max should be

well if your budget is 9-15k

why not buy a new car then, why buy a 01 vw with 126k miles?

here are some strong cars that are above the 200hp milestone and fits your budget

    s2000
    350z
    3000gt
    300zx
    rx-7....etc

Ha i think its funny how you listed every different kind of import car. I dont have a problem with them just saying there are more out there than just imports.

    for example

srt-4 puts out 230hp stock, depending on the car's mods can get up to 300-350.

Cobalt SS 210hp stock, Same thing as the other American car.

Just saying there is lots to pick from out there these days for 10 grand..ish

Totally false, and way too general of a statement.

German car parts are very expensive if you buy them from a dealer. Get them online and you wont be paying the premium price that stealerships charge.
Same with labor. Take it to a reputable euro shop and youll pay the fraction of the price that the stealership will charge.

The mini is horrible to work on. The GTIs are decent to work on.

2200...will cost more than that if the timing belt goes. but he said the timing belt, water pump, etc were just changed, so hes good.

My 02 1.8T chipped passat is at 165k, and still going strong. Its my daily driver to and from work...120 miles a day.

All that being said- I would get a car with less miles on it.

my cuz has an 05 cobalt ss s/c coupe he got for 12k with like 28k miles on it from the dealer traded in a 91 honda accord. he loves it, shit is fast at least in my book compared to corolla.

As for the my statement before my dad worked in the car business for 20 years he was the best at what he did and all vws are junk in his book, nothing but problems, how can u tell me thats false if hes seen them all come in as trades and have them sit in his lot for months how is that a false accusation
