    Any Recommended Oil Filter Tools?

I was doing my oil change yesterday and I came across having trouble removing my oil filter because i haven't changed the oil for almost 5,000 miles. I know that there are some really good tools out there for removing the oil filter. Can anybody recommend any good tools that you use to remove your oil filter on your corolla?
I went to kragen and bought this pos plastic cap looking thing that didn't work at all. I have other tools but they're too big and the metal bar is too long.

LOL I used a METAL POS cap to do mine the first time. The gorillas at jiffy lube changed it prior and over tightened it. I have found the metal cap works well with a socket wrench extension with a paper towel inside the cap to prevent the filter from sliding around.

That is one of the best tools to use for doing an oil change. Also it wont be tight from not changing your oil in 5,000 miles. Make sure when you put your oil filter back on you soak the rubber gasket around the filter in new oil. It makes it easier to remove when you take it off and you dont have to worry about it sticking next time you remove it.

I jam a screwdriver through the oilfilter and spin it about a quarter turn, pull it out, then spin the rest out by hand.

that's the one I use at work every day for like 90% of oil changes... works like a champ... if I can't get to it I'll put a swivel and a couple of extensions on the end

thats so funny i wouldnt do that just cuz i hate getting the oil all over the place but i could def see that as a viable way of doing it.

also i have one of those like retainer things that u tighten with a hangle and turn it a either direction its ok duzent work for my mothers van however because of where the filter is but the rollas are on the bottom easy to get too

MAKE SURE when you get one of those that the 3 arms are long at least an inch and a half. I got one from the tool guys and those little claw things were only like a half inch. Its the biggest POS ive ever bought. just a fyi

Channel locks. Turn on beast mode with channel locks and you'll get 'em off every time.

Yea I agree with the channel lock technique (as a last option). Personally though between metal and plastic oil filter tools, I reach for my plastic one to remove my filters.
